Hi Everyone!

Last 13Oct'09 I got my first extension based on work and will expire 16Sept'10.

I'm married to Thai wife and planning to quit my current job next month Dec.

Can I apply for an early, new extension based on marriage? So I won't have to leave Bkk?

I have 400K in the bank for 2 months.

thanks for your help, advice, suggestions in advance!

You can try but I suspect they may not be overly receptive as you just got an extension from them. In worst case they would say return at end of employment and you would be able to do then. But nothing lost but a bit of time by giving it a try. Wife and full paperwork should be with you. Let us know how it goes.

The very worst case would be a border run to obtain a new entry but that is probably not going to happen.

You are right Lopburi3. The immig officer said come back a day after your last working day and bring a copy of your resignation letter as proof. They will then cancel the non-B first, second -accept my application for non-O extension. Approval or result will be after one month processing.

Perhaps, Lopburi3, you can clarify a similar situation for me. I am on a multi entry Non Imm B and do my final border run in a few days time. I have finished working and during my last 30 days of permission to stay during March 2010 want to get extension based on marriage. I don't have any letters of resignation (It was all verbally set up with my employer) What is the way to proceed? Thanks.

Less than 30 days prior to expiration date of your permitted to stay stamp you visit Immigration with wife and required documents. The same as if you had a non immigrant O visa. A non immigrant B visa does not mean you are/were working so no letter from employee would be expected - that is for extension of stay only.

Jezz,

you can proceed with your extension based on marriage, as you are on a 90 day entry stamp, This stamp is not tied into your employment.

The letter of resignation is only needed when you are here on a 1 year extension based on employment.

If you have the 400K Baht in the bank now (for at least 2 months) you can even apply for your extension based on marriage now and save yourself the bother of that last border run.

Thanks. I thought that was the case but needed confirmation. Appreciated.
