waydaminit...let's listen to tutsi's 'rugby story'...

1975 in a student bar in Eugene, Oregon (rugby is popular there) and tutsi and partner and an associate were having a drink and talking when the door flies open and a herd of gorillas barge in, order beers and launch into obscene rugby songs at full voice...tutsi mumbles: 'what shit...' our companion who was a pre-PC feminist then sneered 'whattaya gonna do about it?' with derision...my partner then got up and approached them and complained and they spewed sexual verbal abuse...

I was powerless, impotent and humiliated... :(

shed...people that are into full contact sports can't wait t'get back to the showers and play 'drop the soap'...

now, me...I useta surf and what more formidable adversary can you have but the sea?...it'll kill ye and not even blink...plus I gotta admit that I have no hand/eye coordination and was always lousy at ball sports, did miserably at 2nd division Little League baseball...

stepped outta my beachfront cottage this morning to go to work in north central VN to find that there was rideable surf(!!!)...the swell persisted as there was the same size on return in the pm but not the glass and the shape from the morning; needed to see what the tide was doing relative to the two observations...that certainly got the juices flowing and I looked to see what was available on the web from my favorite supplier and lo, a perfect board is on offer for these conditions...just now checking out the shipping cost and possible import duty...

haven't surfed in 15 years but always swore that I'd quit drinkin' and get back into shape if there was one more opportunity...and here it is as I plan to be here for 2 more years...there was a storm close by out in the South China Sea and I could see the lightning from my porch this pm; the bigger the storm the bigger the waves...didn't think it possible with the physical geographic layout, no direct exposure...

now I wonder if I can see to take off onna wave without me spectacles... :(

Tutsi,

Take it easy mate & Im talkin from experience. Last year on a trip back to Oz I was passing a beach one morning when I noticed absolutely sensational swell & only half a dozen surfers out there enjoying it. As fortune would have it, my old short board wasnt far away @ a mates place, so I shot over there & dug it out from the depths of his shed. I cruised down to the local surf shop & grabbed a block of wax to freshen the grip up around the edges. I then found myself on the sand standing next to my misses squeezing into my rashie. She looked very concerned by all of this and a couple of times questioned if I knew what I was doing

:annoyed: (stupid woman). ANYWAYZ, how hard could it be, it had only been a couple of years & perhaps a little longer since I had ridden any waves of this size......ohh & thats right, last time I surfed I was riding my Mal and this was my shortboard & ohhh then theres the issue of a couple of extra kgs  (DISASTER PENDING  ).

So out I go, paddle thru break & I kept thinking to myself, geeze this old board doesnt float like it use to (Mai Pben Rai).

Anyway, Im not out there long and this awesome set comes in and one of the guys out there gives me 'the look' & I know he wants the first wave, thats okay, I'll take the 2nd or 3rd. SWEET, so I take off on the 4th wave in this set, this board fast is my first impression as I start to disappear down the front face of this wave - tis about 5-5.5 foot but feeling like at least 12 foot  yeeeehaaaaa, anyway as if a day hasnt passed since my last surf I dig the rail in at the bottom of the way and cut back hard as if Im a pro, going for my first points re-entry & like zing I get about halfway back up the face of the wave before the board spits me off & the next 30 odd seconds or so it seems are a bit of a blurr  @ which time I re-surface bobing around in the whitewash for a little while before making a bee-line for the shore to recompose myself & slapp the misses around abit as she is now RAOFLHAO (Biatch  ).

Its all good, can't wait to get back there next time !

Check out Bells Beach, I was down there in early 2008, it was absolutely AWESOME!

Those Bell's beach waves are awesome. There are waves off Capetown, South Africa that are not high, but they go on for ever. You can ride one wave at least two miles down the beach. The only thing is the area is well known for Great White sharks... just like places in Aussie.

Listen mate.....I am a rugby player of old, as is HB. I hope Humphrey tracks you down in VN and teaches you a lesson or two about rugby players.

As a surfy, I am suprised at your disdain for contact sportsmen.

I agree with you that surfing is a sport that could kill you....and kill you with no fault of your own, however rugby players suffer injury EVERY game (if you play to your maximum best), yet look forward to the next game.

It's one thing to face slightly possible death, it's another to face certain injury and come back for more.....same as that other contact sport, boxing.

;)

Yeah I was going to mention the Nohas, I was snorkling in Western Australia on Nigaloo Reef & saw a couple of really big sharks, one of them in particular took my breath away & reminded me of my better surfing days....long ago

What about this guy?

Hate to burst your bubble ND. (Actually I don't :) ) But....looking up a real dictionary.....first officially used in 1540, "one of a wedded pair". B)

The number one usage in the Englis.....erm, Antipodean dictionary is "The sexual partner of an animal". :D

So, there you go ....mate. :)

ABSOLUTE NONESENSE tt, I much prefer my modified wiki defintion. Just admit it, people wern't using the word MATE, like they do now until after they heard the Aussie's say it. Ohh and when other people say it, they sound silly. Its Ozzie talk, fekkin bloodie kiwis and pommies :lol:;) ;)

ABSOLUTE NONESENSE tt,

Sorry there ND. I thought we were supposed to post absolute nonesense on this thread.

Regards.

I see you avoid my allegation about Phar Lap and pav.

Typical. Resorts to sneaky editing of wiki, and will not face up to solid accusations about other famous thefts.

Those convict genes are still running strong, eh?

Listen mate.....I am a rugby player of old,

As Toots and I have worked on the same project, him on the Owner's side - me on the Contractor's side, I could teach him many things.

We contractors consultants are way superior to the owner's lot.

(Well, until the next project - I think I'm on the Owner's side in 2012 on yet another power station) :annoyed::angry::huh:

It's like the Kiwis claiming the Australian actress Keisha Castle-Hughes as one of their own. <_<

At age 13 she was the youngest person,to be nominated Best Actress, for her role in Whale Rider (2003).

She was born in Donnybrook, Western Australia to an Australian father and an Australian PR mother. :)

 Ahhh, you know I have you beaten down like a little biatch, so you resort to the old convict theme  .

I will have you know the my ancestors who arrived in Australia about two hundred and twenty something years ago were riding on the upper decks of the ship, unlike ur lot who were cast overboard and forced to swim to those tiny islands off the coast of Australia.....what are they called again?

Quite obviously, ND, typically thinking iggerant ockor fashion.

Check the facts mate.

Just envy of kiwis..

Higher percentage of kiwi men working that ockors, kiwi 90%, ockors 83 %.

Check out my earlier post here.........

http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/147335-random-posts/page__pid__3921639__st__5200#entry3921639

Also it was posted some time back that the average kiwi income was higher than ockor incomes.

Lost that link unfortunately.

Kiwis in Australia better educated, worker harder than Aussies

New Zealanders who end up living and working in Australia work on average harder and longer than Australians, an Aussie government survey has found. The workers heading across the Tasman are generally older, professional and more focused on work, according to the Australian Bureau of Statistics.

Check/read here..........
