I have a bore hole in the garden which surplies the water for the house the problem i am having is that the water is hard and the limescale is blocking up the shower heads and tap filters . I have a filter for drinking water l just wonder if there is a way that i can resolve this problem with not a lot of cost.

It'll cost you!! I have been fighting calcium for 10 yrs now....really makes for problems in maintaining a swimming pool as well as what you mentioned already....also washing cars, windows, dishes.....everything that comes in contact with water.

You can get a water softener for the house and if you do a search on the 'do it yourself housing forum', you will find a lot of discussion on this.

the softener uses an ion exchange resin beeds that needs regular maintenance and salt water rinses that I always fall behind on and only works for a few days at most.

calcium is a bitch!!

one solution that I may try when I get a few baht ahead is to drill a deeper well, as the calcium deposits seem to go in veins and maybe you can find a vein with less or no calcium.....it's a gamble.

maybe the mods should move this post to the diy housing forum??/

Softner is the only way to remove the minerals that cause hardness. Drilling a deeper whell is no guarantee of soft water. There are units that the water treatment co. comes and changes out for you and they do the regeneration but I donot know if availabe in Thailand. You could also go with a reverse osmoises unit but still need to clean the filter and these are more expensive than a softner.

and does limescale kills water heaters fast

Yes. There are units that have a different design of the heating element that supposedly slows this happening.

I have a water softener that I bought from Pure. It does "reduce" the limescale but does not eliminate it. To be fair to Pure, they warned me of this as the water here in Hin Lek Fai is EXTREMELY high in calcium. I have the unit set to regenerate every 2 days so I go thru an awful lot of salt.

We are told that government supply water will be coming to this area in the next few months so am looking forward to either getting rid of the softener or at least being able to reduce the regenerating interval.

I need to install a water softening system but am unsure where I will run off the salty backflush water. Where do you discard of yours CDNinKS?

I have mine draining into the same drain as my house gutters.....which goes to the klong outside the property....
