Hi Folks

I have a Honda Wave about 4 years old.18k on the clock. Non fuel injected model. Has always run great but recently its been wanting to conk out.

I had the plug changed which was pretty worn out but it still wants to die sometimes. Can be hard to restart. If I let it rest for a few minutes then it seems to help. Also taking the gas cap off seems to help it start but could just be coincidence.

It feels to me like an air or fuel starvation issue.

A couple of questions

Is there a fuel filter on these things?

Any breather valves for the tank I should be aware about?

Could an air cleaner be causing this? At times it will conk out and not want to restart. It just seems to not be getting air or fuel.

Anyone have simliar problems? I am going take it in but would like a few ideas or theories to work on. The shops here in CM seem to just do the minimum or what you ask them to do.

Thanks for any help.

If you run the cheap fuel instead of 91 it will bugger your carby.

I came back to the village after 3 months in Oz and they were driving my older bike around with the choke flat out. Only way it would run.

No probs with the fuel injected bike.

Nice one.

Ive a CBR150 and it's to the Honda dealer every 5 months or so for a carb clean and new air filter. New spark plug at least once a year, same with all the filters. New brake pads once or twice a year. Change the oil the beginning of every month.

Maintain your bike well. And don't let Thais drive it. :D

That's just my advice.

The same problem will sometimes happen with automatic choke and your battery is getting low.

When your driving and slow down it just dies, most people would suspect fuel or fuel filter. couple minutes later it starts right up.

Charge your battery and will be good again.

Take it to your local Somchai mechanic and tell him to sort it. My Cagiva was running like a bag of spanners. Left it with my local guy and 7 hours later after stripping the full fuel system down and cleaning it runs like a dream. New oil, plug, filters and gaskets, chain greased and tightened and all for 600 baht
