Rather Than Posting Images

Recommended Posts

I have a few files that I'd like to be able to share with the Forum, but they are .avi or .wmv or .mpg or .mp3 or .wma or some other multimedia format that currently isn't supported.

I understand and agree with the reasons why not... the file sizes can be huge resulting in bandwidth problems.

Is there another way? Perhaps another website to host these little beauties (for example Photobucket for hosting images) and then post a link to that website in a TV post?

Any suggestions?

I've got my own domain where I can host any file format... Unfortunately I have to pay for it! :D

I don't know of any websites that offer free video hosting, the way some offer photo hosting... If you have funny clips then some joke sites might host them for you or you can register for your own domain and hosting service...

www.jaidee.com has already been taken though - is that you? :o

  • 1 year later...

I don't suppose our flashy new server / connection in Singapore can handle the extra bandwidth and storage requirements :o

Perhaps with limited file size (5MB or so) and lifetime so the space doesn't fill too rapidly.

How about this? https://www.streamload.com/about/onlinestorage.asp

All these file types (.avi, .wmv, .mpg, .mp3, .wma etc) is supported.

Should not be a bandwidth problem at the new server. Please do a few tests and we can see how it work out! I am not sure if there is a limit in file size though.

Good luck with the testing!

For video files, sign up for a free account at www.youtube.com.

Upload the video there, then post the link here.

For example, here's a few Thai-related ones I found:

Lets give it a try then :o

DUIStop1.wmv

Just one suggestion for uploads: with large files, e.g. greater than 250 kB, add in brackets the file size, as you have done, so that members with a slow (dial-up) connection can make an informed decision whether or not to click on the link.

Incidentally, with reference to your video clip, I was wondering if the police officer could have recited the alphabet backwards (unless it was part of her police training). I, for one, find it difficult, even in a totally sober state. Or do they teach it in US schools?

Changes at Photobucket, since this post, now allows:

Video Upload:

Valid file types: avi, mov, mpeg, mp4, asf, wmv, divx, 3gp, qt, dv

Videos longer than 5 minutes are automatically truncated.

Videos must be under 100 MB

However, there is one condition which might not meet your needs:

Do not upload pornographic material.

I kept waiting for the 18-wheeled MACK truck to come flying down the road doing 180 kph flat out and take out the cop during her "dancing routine" in the roadway.

Oh well, maybe next time.

and yes... the recitation of the backward alphabet is over the top.

I did try that SJ... but when I posted it in this topic, I was informed that my password was required to view the file... :o

Our wonderful forum software does it automatically, no intelligence used on my part :D

BTW, I have no chance of reciting the alphabet backwards, sober or otherwise :o

you have to select the IMG tag under the video and post it here on TV:

test:

th_ChiangMai.jpg

(1.09mb)

Yes... does this work?

Nope, it wants me to input your password to view the file.

I tried uploading a video from my computer and it wouldn't take. After processing for awhile, the page refreshed and suddenly the "File Attachments" box was gone ! I couldn't even give it a 2nd try (without closing and re-opening the thread).

Jai Dee, I think you should tweak the settings in your photobucket - these files are invisible to outsiders. I don't remember but I think the setting is individual for every image.

I've just set the album options to public... does it work now?
