Great News Aussies 21 for 2. Ponting Out. Follow on me hopes!

BTW weather is up and down, but forecast is good for the weekend. Let's hope the forcasters have got it right as it would be nice to see the aussies follow on for the first time in I think 18 years. I'll be at Trent Bridge Sunday.

WOW Great excitement 22-3. Looks like my ticket for Sunday at Trent Bridge may not be fully used :o

England 418 -6. Flintof & Jones put on 177 in two hours, against Australia's bent prong attack. We're taking them to pieces lads. Again.

Yer posts are becoming pretty pathetic Lamppost, since when does a run rate of 4.5 on a wicket described by the English Press as a flat featherbed become so remarkable.

If your blokes have a first innings lead after the Aussies bat then you can blow your bugle a bit, or maybe you will be to busy wiping egg off your moosh. :o

See what you mean Ozzie mate. Australia 223 already.................Oh sh1t. Sorry mate missed a dash. 22-3

Jeez,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,just looked out my window and there's about thirty Ozzies dressed up as Indians dancing around the square. They keep looking up to the sky and shaking sticks. Any ideas?

It is rather a mystery, isn't it?

Although I do have it on good authority that it is some form of sophisticated Pavlovian reaction, triggered by reading headlines such as the following in the Sidney Morning Herald:

Australia's top order flops again

As the world watches, a champion side sinks deeper into the mire

Curious culture isn't it?

I hear their soccer team's good.

Australia 218 All Out. England should enforce follow-on. It's a bit grey overhead at the moment let's hope the rain ain't gonna save Australia.

I reckon that we are watching the best cricket team in the world at the moment England. Looks like Australia have had their day, long day it was.

1208: Vaughan chooses to enforce the follow-on, the first time Australia have had to do so since 1988

It left the tourists 259 runs in arrears and England skipper Michael Vaughan enforced the follow-on.

No doubt about it, England has had a fine spell with the ball. If they continue to show this kind of form they may well win the series. It is good to watch such a fine calibre of cricket from them, on the other hand extreemly dissapointing to see a fine cricket team crumble......

Now if Australia were playing to standard, we would have a very very special match indeed....... as it is its good cricket anayways......

You poor old thing.............................The only Aussie with enough balls to stay with us. Still in the unlikely event of an Aussie victory, you can be sure they'll be flooding back. Strange though, havn't heard from Supermouth for a day or two. Maybe he's jumped off Sydney Harbour Bridge. Mind you, if you do lose the Ashes, the blame lies firmly in the great tipsters hands. If you win, or hold the Ashes, then I for one will have a lot of respect back for the Australian team. Good on you muckers; great series up to now.

What I don't understand - I know getting run out is a bitch - is why Ricky P. threw such a wobbley after his dismissal?

It was excessive, even given the heat of the moment.

He's apologised and of course this is accepted, but there must be some reason why a Captain behaves in such a manner, over and above the emotional.

He believed the poms were cheating, or at least stretching the rules, by resting (rotating) the fast bowlers in the pavilion while using a specialist, fast substitute fielder who ran him out. Of course he should have complained to the umpires before, not after, the event because he now just looks like a pratt.

I think it was a buildup of frustration because the umpires haven't helped Australia in its losing struggle. Two of the first innings lbws (including Ponting) were actually inside edges, and Flintoff was out plumb lbw for 8 and not given. He made a hundred. Things like this (inc. the runout) can change a close game to a rout. And if you combine it with the fact that he can't win a toss and bat first on the dead pitches it would piss anyone off.

While I agree with you in principal, I think that the bad umpireing decisions have been pretty even throughout. Pontings LBW, was never an inside edge, though Martin was twice had by that trick. What I did not understand as well, was the calling of the third umpire in a catch scenario. That just doesn't happen. Not unless the rules have changed. Saying that, I do believe that all dismissals should be thouroughly veriacated before a batsman is given out, or not out , in disputed circumstances.
