I'm looking for a cheap DVD player that will play most things (Divx/VCD) from the USB slot.

I see quite a lot around the 1000-2000 baht price but not sure what they play.

Ideally I'd like to hook a large (500gb) HD to it and be able to navigate it easily.

If the menu was large enough to display long file names that would be good too.

Don't need Blu-ray but HDMI would be good.

Thanks.

You may be better off with one of the hard-disk media players, they play pretty much anything including DVD rips. Lots of different units of assorted prices in Pantip / Fortune.

None of the DVD players I've tried will do anything useful with a hard disk attached to the USB, even if the contents is the same as a flash memory that does work with the machine, and they've all got pretty poor navigation :(

Tesco do one at around 650 baht that plays most things. You will have to transfer what you want to watch from a hard drive onto a USB stick each time as the have trouble reading big HDD's but at that price is worth the effort. :D

I bought a cheap one today from Tesco; it was about 900b.

It plays everything as far as I can tell and has HDMI. The version without HDMI was about 600b.

If I plug in my 500gb HD it will scan it and let me start watching something but then crashes but so far seems to play ok off a 2gb usb stick.

The Divx films I've tried are a bit blocky - not sure if that is the files or player? They are about 700mb files of films.

Its connected to the TV with a 89baht HDMI lead so that might be it?

Sounds is pretty quiet too and the interface for browsing is horrible and the remote is cheap!

But for the price I guess I can't complain.

It will do for now but will either get an WD TV thing or a dedicated PC for watching films, downloading stuff and playing music. Anyone seen an ok one for about 10,000 baht (no monitor needed).

Thanks for the help.
