The dreaded personal information form turned up at Immigration N/S on Friday. The girl just asked me to sign ant print my name on it. They would do the rest.

The retirement extension took about 1 1/2 hours because there was a small parade outside (which I initially thought was for me as I was an ex Corporal in the RAF) but some general from Immigration turned up instead and stole it.

I got my meds from the pharmacy and when I got home I found that one was wrong.

I found Bigg Steak I think but not a parking space closer the 250 metres so I ended up eating international cuisine at the LotusTesco branch of KFC. It filled a gap and I was hungry.

Has anybody tried "Burger Lab" on Soi Matulee behind Srisawan Hospital?  If so is it any good?  I have to have my foot cut on and am going to Srisawan Hospital so I thought that a good burger would be in order. Actually I would like a big slab of rare USDA Choice, bone in, prime rib, with a salad with homemade blue cheese dressing and a big baked potato with butter, cheddar cheese and bacon bits, but I know that isn't going to happen ANYWHERE in Thailand!

 

I'm drooling all over the ketyboard just thinking about it , but back to the original question about burger Lab.

I had to do my 90 day as well today. Decided to time them I have a stop watch function on my watch. Set it to go as I walked through the door, off as I left time was 1m47s. I did comment 'with a smile' that they were slow this time. At least they saw the funny side of it.

For the locals, by the way it's going we will still be using N/S for the next year at least.

 

Update on N/S their clock outside Big C is 11 hours slow right temp: though. Read 01/41 at 12/41pm at least it gets the Min: correct so there is some hope.

 

Now the best bit the 1 road out to Tak K.P.P is now even worse if that's possible.

Now has pot holes on the pot hole repairs they last did 6 months ago and the places that weren't repaired are unusable, Lories on the left hard shoulder cars on the right one, max speed 60/70kph.

All does get top hole once you entre K.P.P province thank Buddha.

About time you got rid of your local government or at least stopped them from putting all the monies in their back pocket.

 

Rant over except to say that I would like to know if there is another province that has worse roads??? as I don't know of one.

 

If anyone if thinking of opening a business there, might be a good idea to think about investing in a car suspension one must be loads of punters. 

Tip. Watch out for big hole as you turn left coming from the Visa office at the T/Lights outside Big C you cant see it as it's full of water.

Thank Buddha my lump is like a tank or I would be still digging it out.

By chance was in there the other day, not been for a while.

 

Not got too much of what you are looking for but an excellent pork burger. Also a beefburger made from Australian beef.

 

I have always found the food very good and everyone I know says the same.

 

A few more places worth a mention, (1) EATNY on the Asia Highway just south of the Dragon Statue - there are two shops on the corner apparently selling cakeboxes, it's in the second. If you look up there's a sign above, opp. BigC a bit further up. Anyway well recommended. (2) Chef House on Sawanvittee opp Dawvadeong, only new, similar menu to Bella - guess where they got the idea from. Not been or heard any reports.

Since you are familiar with NS, there used to be an Amorn Electronics at 155 Sawanvittee across from KTB.  I've tried to send them and email and call them but booth unanswered.  Is it still there?  If not have they relocated or have they "flew the coop"?  I live in Takfa and would hate to drive there and get in the traffic mess on Sawanvittee i  f they are gone.

Right I think my patience  is totally exhausted with the combination of TVF and my Samsung. So anyway they packed their bags and moved on some moths ago.

 

Not being one to complain but it is the Bangkok Bank not KTB.and I assume you are referring to the long single storey building at the end of the Bella Coffee car park next door to the Vitteethep store and hotel which in turn are next to the toy shop bearing the number 167.

 

Anyway sorry I do not have better news for you.

One doesn't talk/tap with a plumb in ones mouth when replying to the lower class peeps from N/S or nearby. Just wouldn't be Cricket.

 

When one was studying at Eaton one was told to always try and mix with the also ran's as it would allow one to become more acquainted with their foibles. Also might stop them from throwing stones at our straw hats.

 

Right that's sorted. I didn't miss the car park bit, sorry to say that I don't or should that be do not know any of the names of the roads there. Never been to the Bella coffee place is that the one that sold "crap" (that bits for you lot if one had put in inedible it could have gone over your heads) comestibles (food) for their Christmas lunch that Nong/David told me about. Has it closed yet or is it still struggling on???

 

Regards Sawanvittee or the Vitteethep store one got lost after the Sawan.

One is in and out as soon as possible, only having time to check the clock, miss a few read several hundred pot holes before escaping up north via the still rubbish roads and out of the utter madness for another 90days.

Spoke to the peeps in the Img N/S some time ago they said it has to be done via Internet explorer. Then added that they cant do it. So don't try.

Sorry Fred I have been reading your posts for too many years. But nice try anyway.

 

As it happens I used to drink in two very nice pubs in Eaton Terrace, The Antelope and The Duke of Wellington. Cracking little alehouses, unfortunately I didn't exactly live around the corner. I would recommend them to anybody visiting London, lovely little quality places. Well they were five years ago anyway.

I did my yearly trip to the US Embassy yesterday to get my Income Affidavit and then went directly to Nakhon Sawan to get my 1 year Retirement extension, an exhausting but worthwhile day.

0330 left home

0600 arrived parking lot Foodland Soi 5, shopped

0700 arrived parking lot at All Seasons on Wireless Road, shopped in Tops market and hobbled to Embassy

0800 arrived ACS and submitted paperwork  I was told that the notarial services didn't begin until 0900 so I would have to wait,  My appointment was 0915.

0840 number was called and I was gone, walked back to All Seasons went to Subway.

0935 left All Seasons for the trip home

1200 arrived Makro in Nakhon Sawan, shopped - immigration closed for lunch.

1250 arrived immigration ate other half of sandwich that I had bought at Subway.  Went in at 1300 when immigration opened.

1320 left immigration with a new extension good until 6 November.

1430 arrived home.

Total trip 11 hours and 548 kilometers

1700 had a sandwich and and 1/2 a bottle of beer and passed out, woke up at 2200.

 

Observations:

1. Going south on AH1 down to one lane around Anthong but all else good.  Coming north at the same location down to two lanes (bridge repair) and just north of Inburi down to 1 lane also bridge repair otherwise good. Roads good because there were no tracked vehicles like you KKP heathens use!

2.  Missed all traffic both ways, no big traffic jam anywhere.

3. Bangkok is very "black and white".  Most of the police vehicles have shiny new paint jobs where the old red is now black.  The car dealers have replaced all of their showroom vehicles with either black or white.

4. The price of black and white clothing has literally quadrupled.  I talked to a girl that was looking at some at one of thestreet vendors on my hobble and she said that the clothes now marked 400 baht were 100 baht last week.

5.  If you want to renew your American passport or apply for a new one the Embassy will not accept pictures with eyeglasses after 1 November.

6.  NS Immigration now accepts Income Affidavits up to 6 months old.

7.  It was a tiring day but it was well worth it with what I accomplished and I won't have to do it again for another year.

8. The only embarrassing moment was my encounter with a Farang in Foodland that wanted to strike up a conversation with me.  He was my age and from his accent I think that he was a Brit.  What was embarrassing was his dress.  He had a florescent yellow tank top, flowered shorts and red tennis shoes, the kind that had the flashing led's on them, at least the battery was dead.  He either didn't have a clue or didn't care.

In addition to my book above, There were no extra immigration forms requiring me to provide all kinds of personal info that everybody has been talking about, the only extra ones were the one explaining that any change in your status could void your extension and the one explaining overstay penalties.  I attached a copy of my 5 year Thai driver's license as proof of address., no questions asked, but this lady has been doing my extensions since before the 2011 flood.  I was number 1183 in the extension book this year, 1120 last year, so the number of Farangs doing extensions is about the same.

 

If you have any reason to go there between now and when school starts again take some goodies as the extension lady's two young girls are camped out there while school's out.

 

Now I'm bored again, my one yearly trip and my only restaurant prepared food, a sandwich from Subway, and now it's all over for another year!  I didn't even mind driving in Bangkok, only because I knew exactly where I was going and where to park!

I have been in Oz for quite a while having a total knee replacement.   It seems to have worked and although it takes 6 months to fully recover, at 10 weeks down the track I can now walk without limping. 

Arrived back into Swampy at 1am yesterday on 23/10/2016.  At immigration a surly crone took my passport and then spent ages poring over it before stamping it and slapping it back in front of me.  It wasn’t until I got to the hotel that I found that she had written on the Visa validity stamp 22/10/2016 instead of 22/10/2017-i.e. I had overstayed my visa before I even arrived.

So at 10am back at the airport we picked up a car, loaded our luggage into it then went to change money before visiting immigration to get the problem fixed.  I got a good exchange rate in the basement since, after counting the money several times and double checking with her coworker the girl made a mistake and gave me their sell Aussie dollar rate instead of their buy rate. 

We then went to level 4 via the escalators, as the lifts weren’t working to see the re-entry immigration office to be told we should see the tourist police on level 2 instead.    Following another escalator journey we found the Tourist Police office crammed full of officials.    After a couple of attempts at explanation they understood the problem which gave them a few laughs.   To be fair they were very helpful and phoned for the immigration police.   One turned up after a few minutes and just then the currency exchange girl called up and said she had made a mistake and asked me to pay back.  I explained I was talking to the police and they had asked me to go with them which brought the conversation to an end.

I then got my 15 minutes of fame as I was escorted politely but firmly back through firstly customs and then immigration with badge flashing and signing of books to an office near where airline staff enter.  I waited outside an office for 15 minutes with an excellent view of the various female cabin crews arriving before my passport was returned to me with the corrected date and a few hieroglyphics.  I was then escorted back through immigration by another officer and, after a nice chat left to my own devices to exit via customs.

Finally at 12AM we got back to the car (which hadn’t been towed or parked in) and headed north.  Only 2 incidents of note-a truck plus trailer in the ditch around the Singburi area and a mopping up crew at work after another truck had gone into the ditch on the Nakkers bypass goat track.   The new interchange north of Nakkers is impressive but the road north, especially around Lat Yao is a shocker, seems to get worse each trip if that is possible.  

PS.  After thinking about it I realised that the exchange girl would personally have to repay the overpayment which wasn’t quite fair so I called her back and arranged to transfer the extra back to her.

Welcome back and glad that your knee is coming along.  I had a hip replacement done in Rattanavej Hospital , now Paknampo 2, in Nakhon Sawan  4.5 years ago and all is still going well but it's the rest of the body that's falling apart! It seems that you guys always complain about the road north of Nakhon Sawan and the bypass.  Maybe you heathens should stop using tracked vehicles on proper roads!

My body is still in a working condition, minus a lot of teeth and hair.

 

I had an arthroscopy on my left knee about 20 years ago and a couple of stents put in about 10 years ago and that was it for major repairs, touch wood.

 

Other than that it is just normal fair wear and tear and body abuse. plus too much liquid enjoyment over the years.

 

I am 72 now and sometimes I feel a lot older, especially when I get out of bed in the morning.

Thanks Wayne-I reckon there is no sense having one part of the body in top working condition only for the rest to fall apart.   Managed uniform deterioration is the way to go.

 

Knee replacements are pretty good these days, not nearly as painful as I expected.   Could manage the stairs after 4 days, drive after 4 weeks and walk 6km after 8 weeks.   The other knee is dodgy but probably OK for a few more years.

 

Now the road north of Nakkers , starting at the bypass is a shocker and if it keeps deteriorating I reckon tracked vehicles may be the only answer.     Improves markedly once into KPP province so I'm not sure if they are trying to keep the NS people in or the KPP people out.   Fred may well have other explanations.

 

Couldn't see any radical difference in geography on a free topo map I found at http://www.maphill.com/thailand/detailed-maps/terrain-map/ so the soil probably isn't the issue.

 

Of course it may just be that the funding priority goes to the southern section because that is where the traffic is heaviest.

H/M thinks that the state of the roads there are down to the local leaders not spending any cash on them. It took them over 3 years to repair a dodgy bridge. 

Must have been the worst 3 years of their life having to fork cash out of their own pre-lined back pockets. 

 

N/S has the worst roads surface wise in the whole of Thailand Fact.

 

I did say once that if anyone wanted to open a business there they should open one repairing limo suspension. A win win situation.

Court delivers blow to govt plans for Mae Wong Dam

BANGKOK: -- THE CENTRAL Administrative Court yesterday ordered the government to comply fully with constitutional clauses related to public consultations and an Environment and Health Impact Assessment (EHIA) before beginning construction of the planned Mae Wong Dam.

 

The order was given to four accused persons and organisations – Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha, the Cabinet, the director-general of the Royal Irrigation Department, and the Agriculture and Cooperatives Ministry. 

The court ruling came after 151 people, led by Stop Global Warming Association’s president Srisuwan Janya, lodged a complaint against the project.

II came across a new  posted this in the finance section but no response as yet so wondered if anyone on this forum has come across the same issue-

 

Was trying an international transfer of quite a bit less than $50,000 into my Thai Kasikorn account from an International company but after a week it hadn't appeared.

 

Previous transfers( some time ago) have been trouble free.

 

I called up the bank and was told that because it came from an International company  that they hold the funds and I was expected to contact them and provide various documentation such as passport, passbook and an handwritten note that the funds were for personal use.  Of course they hadn't tried to contact me so I was unaware of this.

 

Anyone else come across this sort of impediment?

My brother ( thaivsa member Gazman1 ) had a similar thing recently with Kasikorn and I think it was three weeks and a took lot of sorting out.

The amount was much larger than the figure mentioned and at one stage looked like jeopardising the outcome of a housing purchase for which a substantial deposit had been paid. Like your situation Kasikorn was not forthcoming with the details of delay.
