BREAKING NEWS: Phuket Police launch manhunt for three foreigners in B30mn jewelry heist

Phuket Gazette

PHUKET: -- The Phuket Gazette has received confirmed reports that police have launched a manhunt for three foreign men who carried out a smash-and-grab robbery of about 30 million baht in jewelry this morning.

The three men allegedly smashed the windows of a Toyota Avanza parked behind the Big C supercenter on the bypass road at 9:45am with an umbrella and stole a suitcase containing the jewelry.

The men were seen by eyewitnesses and caught on CCTV making their getaway in a white Toyota Vios.

More details to follow.

Now if only the thieves could break into some of the jewellery stores that rip off the farangs. I'd laugh at that.

who in their right mind would leave that kind of money in a car overnight? I also wonder how they knew it was in there.

this reeks of a scam, I don't believe it was random.

Sounds like they have to share with the owner of the car...

30 million left in the car park ????

Gotta be an inside job , surely !

It was not 30 million in money form, it was jewelry that was stolen and the price put on that was 30 million baht.

That would keep them occupied for a very long time .....

Is it making it less insane? Would you leave 30m in jewelry unattended ?

Obviously it's a part of plan!

Where did you read it was left in the car overnight?

Cheap attempt to trick the insurance company? Who else would leave 30 mln baht of jewellery unattended, anywhere?

30 Million Baht!!! Hahah yeah right, more like 3000baht worth, a pack of gum, and some envelopes!!!

Pretty sure any insurance company would have exclusion clauses for this. No, can't belive it's for insurance.

who would carry 30m worth of jewelry and still own an avenza?

They smashed the windows of a car with a umbrella.

Must be a expensive umbrella.

Agree - most will not cover you unless locked out of site - eg. in the boot and it would need to be specific cover for that sort of value.

the owner of the car has never shopped at supercentre before ... he just wanted a change from Lotus. cheesy.gif

I think it was their Rolls Royce umbrella from back home in foreigner land.

What sort of insurance would cover Baht 30 million in jewelry left in a car parked in an insecure location? Insurance companies are in business to fleece their clients not hand out cash like a broken slot machine.

Someone walking into an insurance agents asking for coverage for B30 million auto insurance or property insurance would certainly raise some warning signals and if the insurance were issued, it would be awash in security requirements.

It's the same sort of thing as the farang walking on Beach Rd in Pattaya at 03:00 in the morning who claim their bag was stolen and it contained 7 mobile phones, B80,000 in gold, $100,000 in foreign currency and their room key to a Baht 300 a nite hotel.

Many of the farang criminals who find their way to Thailand don't seem to be all that bright (although apparently brighter than the police and immigrations officers in their own countries who ask Thailand to find them).

That was definitely one hell of a fierce umbrella!! ermm.gif

A Crowbar disguised as an umberella???
