Thailand Electricity Question

Recommended Posts

I have a set of speakers from the USA...the plug says the input is 100-240 volts...50/60 hrz....600mA

My question is this safe to plug in with no adapter/converter? I do not want to burn the speakers out as they are nice bose speakers.

Thanks for advice.

Should be no problem. I have several bits of kit with similar spec all plugged in and working. Thai mains is nominally 220 volts @ 50Hz, but the voltage varies a fair bit - downwards ;)

I believe the sparkies in the "Do it yourself housing forum" would be the best bet for any electrical questions. Some of the guys really know their stuff.smile.png

Should be no problem seeing its marked good for both frequencies - 50Hz and 60Hz.

thanks..i am a bit worried about the 600mA as i don't know what that means?

600mA is quite common for small devices drawing AC power directly from wall sockets.

600mA = 0.6Amps about the same as a LCD computer monitor. Normal circuit for a power outlet is good for about 16Amps x 220VAC x 50hz, so no problem using that power supply here. The 600mA is also peak at 120VAC so will probably be less with 220VAC supply.

Cheers

Plugged them in and work fine....just wanted to be sure as i bought another set of bose speakers a few years ago and they required me to get a different adapter ...but the newer ones that i bought recently have now changed the adapter that comes with them so they are good to go worldwide...great little speakers ...bose
