I may get an opportunity to visit Isaan for approximately two weeks.

I enjoy drinking, going out to the bar/club, and meeting women. I'm in my thirties. I know Isaan is a far cry from Bangkok, but can my interests be met to some extent so far out in the country? Are there any bars out there that cater to my interests?

Please let me know.

Thanks in advance.

I love going to the different disco's. Live music, dancers, young crowd. It is fun.

In the day time I like seeing the sites of the province. Otherwise in town I like bowling, going for ice cream, going to see a Thai movie, going to the park and having a walk, and trying different foods.

My background: Young, single male, and from a flyover state in the US.

If you're from New York City, then you might get bored in Isaan. But I like Isaan because it reminds me of home.

Udon Thani is not on my itinerery, by the way. I'm talking country Isaan...

Thanks.

How well do you speak Thai?

Very rare to find someone who can speak English out in the sticks.

You will find many women (and men) willing to sit and drink with you. You will be paying, of course.

But it's MUCH cheaper than the booze in Bangkok. So that's always nice!

A plastic chair on the street and a bottle of booze works for me.........

Sounds pretty interesting.....! I will continue to inquire about the possibilities with more insider knowledge of the more country side of Isaan....

Thanks for the responses! Keep me informed.

P.S. Not to be obvious, but the "subjects from Isaan" are impressive in BKK and elsewhere in LOS. I'll leave it at that.

And I'll continue to be the blabbering falang whose mind is on tilt:

Connect Four at those plastic tables? Bar kart? Checkers? Disco lights?

Pray advise.

Thanks.

Isaan is a very big area, for you to have more descriptive advice maybe good to say where you will be visiting in Isaan.

If going to visit a farang friend I would go.

If going with a local lass I would forget it, for the following reasons, she is making a statement and whether you know it or not she is basically saying you are a couple. Your socialising will be curtailed, the girl and her family will watch you like a hawk, and any local competition will be warned off. Your social life will revolve round where she and her family want to take you.

You may come to resent the lack of freedom, and you will certainly come across women you you consider to be a better option than the one you are with.

Never come across anywhere in Issan that doesnt have some kind of action.

"Never come across anywhere in Issan that doesn't have some kind of action."

What do you mean? That you always have some type of "Action" with local Isaan girls? That i/other falang can expect attention too while in Isaan? Please clarify.

Thanks.

If you are expecting Suk soi 4 or WS in Pattaya, forget it, it doesnt exist.

What does exist are Thai places where you can indulge yourself in merrymaking, wine women and song.

Be aware the type of behaviour by the women will be totally different to the places mentioned above, also you need to consider the way you behave in Thai places, whats acceptable in Bkk or Pattaya isnt acceptable upcountry.

Its the same game, but different rules, same same but different.

Its just dawned on me, Nan isnt Issan, its North Thailand.

If you are handsum or Quasimdo l don't think you will have a problem, BUT, lsaan is a big place, think you must be more specific about you destinations. smile.png

Wow, this thread took a horrible turn. I have no idea how Pattaya would come up in a thread asking what to do in Isaan.

ivan are you going to Isaan for a vacation getaway? Are you going with somebody? Are you specifically looking for sex like rgs apparently is?

Well mister, thats a hell of an accusation to make, you are more than welocme to make it to my face should we ever meet.

Seeing as you made an assumption about me, I would appreciate it if you extend me the same courtesy, I can only assume you, dont speak or read Thai, you dont live here, or you are one of those guys whose mrs keeps locked up in the house.

Nowhere have I said I am looking for sex, the OP asked a question, it doesnt take a rocket scientist to work out what he means, I replied stating what he seeks is available, anyone living here knows what goes on, end of.

No - there is nothing like what you want in Issaan. Best to stay in Patts.

Great Night Clubs in Khon Kaen - just stay away from the expats bars.

Also, ignore the sexpats on this thread .

Clarification: I am aware that Nan is not in Isaan...I mentioned that as an aside that I may also visit that part of the country.

Also, I will be on my own (if I decide to go), which is the only reason I inquire about things suitable to my lifestyle. I enjoy having a woman by my side no matter where I am, and since it is a quieter place than Bangkok, I am wondering what my chances are.

I do understand that upcountry / Isaan is a far cry from Bangkok both in atmosphere and attitude, as I alluded to in an earlier post. Even while in Bangkok, I am a gentleman to the ladies, whether they are local girls, bar girls, girls sitting at Starbucks, or female street vendors.

I appreciate the generous replies. Let's all be gentlemen and not turn this into some vitriolic thread merely because a helpful person decided to allude to certain types of extracurricular activities.

Keep the information rolling, gents, as I'm enjoying your input.

Right, you didn't specifically say that you were looking for sex, but you came out of nowhere talking about "action" and talking about Pattaya and walking street.

I'm not a rocket scientist as you could see by my "I like to go bowling in Isaan" recommendation.

Sorry if I offended you, but I was offended of your talk about Isaan folk.

Sure! I've only seen the ocean a handful of times in my life, so I do try to enjoy the beach when given the opportunity.

Don't let your nerves get hit so easily by one post. Relaxwink.png You inquired on some information. I am interested what' s going on in Nan. Let' s see.

There are good things and bad things in Issan, as with all areas of rural Thailand...

There is one or two ex-pat bars in even small towns in Issan... some of the bigger towns like Loei have pretty substantial nightlife...

I might say beware of the Thai 'hostess' bars... while the girls are typically infinitely better looking than those that make their way into the farrang bar industry in BKK... bills can get expensive, and also I am sure many of the girls are underage, which isn't acceptable to me...

Don't discount Udon - you can have a blast there, and it is actually representative of a lot of Issan...

Cheers,

Daewoo

Okay, those in the know have chimed in and I have additional questions:

One, don't call me a Cheap Charlie, but I can hardly complain about prices in BKK. Two of the big bottles of Chang for 85 baht sounds fine to me, but to knit-pick, what would they go for up there in Isaan? Is there a local Isaan drink of choice, by the way?

Two, I have no problem taking a girl out and spending quality time with her. I am always very relieved when this happens in Bangkok and the next morning, I walk her to a cab with a quick kiss and a hug and she goes off WITHOUT ASKING FOR MONEY and additionally providing her phone number. Can I expect this situation to be a regular practice, or will the girls who I am hanging out with in Isaan be expecting monetary transactions for "time" with me?

Three, this is a minor issue, but are there decent internet services and/or internet cafes?

Thanks.

^^^^^.

In some Thai places a large Chang will cost you 400 baht.

Issan drink of choice, lao kao, 10 baht a shot (bek neung) from your local mom n pop shop.

Normal decent Issan girls usually live with their parents and wont be out galavanting round town.

University towns are somewhat different.

All depends where you and the girl meet, but yes chances are she will want some sort of financial compensation for her time.

Final question, yes.

400 baht? What, at an upscale club in Bangkok? The most I ever pay in BKK is 85 baht for two bottles. Surely, they can't be that expensive in Isaan. Please clarify as to where they sell a 400 baht bottle of Chang...
