PHUKET: -- The Australian man who fell 18 floors from a Patong hotel balcony on Tuesday is recovering from an operation to repair a ruptured spleen and to start correcting his shattered right leg, which was nearly torn off in the impact.

Staff at Vachira Phuket Hospital in Phuket Town reported that John Hurley, 39, underwent the surgery yesterday afternoon.

“He is conscious and is responding to stimuli. However, we are still concerned about his condition as he suffered serious internal bruising,” a staffer at the hospital told the Phuket Gazette.

Mr Hurley suffered several broken ribs, a punctured lung, serious injuries to his right leg and a broken left hand in the impact.

Police have yet to reveal the series of events that led to Mr Hurley’s plunge from his room’s balcony at the Royal Paradise Hotel.

“His sister from Australia is expected to arrive this afternoon,” the staffer said.

Wowwww! He is one incredibly fortunate human being.

he will soon suffer a much more harder reality : a broken wallet

he is a lucky dude, to be alive. (but i think he was trying to kill himself, so is he lucky or unlucky?!?)

he will soon suffer a much more harder reality : a broken wallet

Could be financially bad for him on top of his injuries.

If he was trying to kill himself he probably didn't bother with travel/accident insurance.

Insurance won't pay up medical costs for a failed suicide. :(

Is that you, Fozzie?

Well if he was trying to kill himself he will just have to persevere. The easiest way seems to be to get in a bar fight, with lady boys if possible, if not a drunk with a gun.

Maybe for the first time we have a balcony survivor , that can tell the story , was it a suicide or not ?

No, a fortunate human being would not have fallen from the balcony. biggrin.png

I notice no-one has yet praised the efforts and skill of the medical and emergency services that helped to (hopefully) save him...

Police visited John Hurley from Sydney Australia at Vachira Phuket Hospital ICU before he underwent surgery earlier this week.

PHUKET BREAKING NEWS: -- The Australian man from Sydney who fell from an 18th storey Phuket hotel balcony earlier this week was still receiving treatment in the Intensive Care Unit of Vachira Phuket Hospital this afternoon.

John Hurley, 39, plunged from the hotel balcony of his room at the Royal Paradise Hotel in Patong on Tuesday.

Mr Hurley underwent surgery at Vachira Phuket Hospital in Phuket Town later that afternoon for a ruptured spleen and to start a series of corrective measures for his left leg, which was shattered by the impact.

Hospital staff confirmed today that Mr Hurley is conscious and is still responding to stimuli, but is now on breathing support.

"He is now getting better," one hospital worker told the Phuket Gazette.

If he gets himself a good agent/publicist he could potentially make quite a bit of money.

It all depends what sort of spin he puts on the story.

Well, after another week in Phuket Paradise, it would seem a couple of bottles of Thai whiskey does a better job then jumping from an 18th floor balcony. Who would ever thought????

  • 1 month later...

I see a movie of the week here if he plays his cards right . Get an agent !!!!
