Khao Noi Sports bar - darkside.

Ribs for 195b and water 30b, choice of mash potato, fries + a salad

Very hard ribs, and different parts of the ribs were cold - could not eat it, also got 8 french fries and usual thai style salad with mayo on top.

Asked for the bill after 3 minutes, she asked me if no good and I said - very hard ribs.

charged full price.

Service pretty good, they gave me a bell to ring to get waitress attention - looked very promising, nice decor...

Curry and Chips - Khao Noi - Darkside

Got the Ham and Cheese pie with a Sprite.

Pie looked great and came with free gravy - would come back here to try other stuff, I hope the pie had been kept warm rather than just microwaved, but I just don't know - tasted great after the ribs anyway.

120b eat in.

ROMAN food restaurant

New restaurant in old Italian restaurant location

2nd road, west side, a bit south of Royal Garden Mall

This place appears to be doing a kind of "soft" opening as when I walked in there was nobody to greet me but there were a few customers waiting on an order. Had a quick look at the menu and what they appear to be doing is a GOURMET Italian restaurant featured ROMAN style (as in the region of Rome) specialty dishes. Of course there are other Italian dishes that would be considered more generic national Italian.

The menu I saw was all in Italian with no other languages. The prices were on the high side. For example chicken Cacciatore for 400 baht. Chicken Cacciatore really caught my eye because I don't recall seeing that on a local restaurant menu before and it's one of my favorite dishes from childhood from Italian American restaurants. I think I recall a fried brocolli appetizer similar price that I'm guessing is probably a Roman inspired specialty.

I think the most famous Roman specialty is actually a Jewish origin recipe with fried artichokes (Carciofi alla Giudia) but of course fresh artichokes in Thailand would be a problem. I did not see this on the menu but maybe I missed it.

http://italianfood.about.com/od/artichokes/r/blr0375.htm

It's encouraging that the owners think Pattaya can support a specialty gourmet restaurant of this kind and I hope they're optimism is justified.

The previous Italian restaurant in that location was also doing a more non-standard Italian menu and did close.

No. I haven't tried this new Roman restaurant yet, but if you do, please post your impressions of what you ordered there.

The dinner buffet price is now 299, not 249 any longer, even though the website hasn't been updated.

Is it worth 299?

I like this place and have had several meals there that were well worth 249B. If the extra 50B goes towards keeping the quality of the ingredients up then I dont mind paying. If it's just a case of paying an extra 50B for the same thing then I may go less often, or I may check what's on offer more carefully before sitting down. There are lots of other places to try in that price range.

I am confused with all the Chinese Restaurants that have opened and closed on 3rd road (and surrounding area).

Is the one on the right hand side of 3rd road, if travelling north, and not far from the North Road junction, new ?

Only a Thai sign that looked like it said Neung ?

The Nueng Ghin Daem just moved a few hundred meters North on 3rd Rd., last year. It was a food stand, located opposite of Mooks before.

In my opinion, it's more Thai than Chinese food, even if the sign mentions 'Chinese'.

However, I like the food there. The prices almost doubled at the new location, but it's still not expensive at all.

Thanks Sir, just back in town, and driving along 3rd road yesterday, I could have sworn I had never seen it before.

I noticed two places on the right.

Of course Shanghai, mentioned here many times, is on the left.

There is that smaller place that does indeed look to be Thai Chinese, not Chinese.

I looked at the menu and it didn't interest me enough to eat there.

Then there is this huge place called Pattaya Bay.

I haven't explored it but I reckon it is probably for Chinese tour BUS TOURS only and specializes of course in seafood.

There are a number of these BUS TOUR types of places in town, also Korean and Indian that do not serve or welcome the general public.

Speaking of 3rd Road, I was sad to see that 'Porn Naem Nuang' had closed their doors.

I really liked their Vietnamese Food, and have no idea where to go now for my fix?

Is the small place on Soi Sophon Cable still open or anywhere else I dont know about ?

Not sure. Thanks for the news about the 3rd road place. I didn't know that before.

Well, there is a good portion of the old SAIGON CAFE menu from the Central Beach Mall (now closed) in Jomtien Complex at the L'Olivier French/Vietnamese restaurant location (used to have an appetizer buffet, now doesn't).

Hello, where was the Porn Naem Nuang ? I know only a Vietnamese restaurant on 2rd road and it is still open.

Strange thing is, I came past last night and it looked like it was open, albeit with no customers.
But every other time, it has looked like this.

Vietnamese on 2nd road? Where?

Sorry I wanted to say 3rd road...

So I confirm that it is still open.

And I also went to the SHANGHAI restaurant in the same street near North Pattaya and it's really the best value quality around.

You can eat 40 baht FRESH noodles and your get a lot more than any robber street seller and his dirty dishes !

I will never eat noodles anywhere else !

Where's that one then? Is that noodle soup or "dry" noodles? What toppings/flavours?

Actually there is a dedicated thread ONLY about Shanghai restaurant. It is not titled Shanghai because that wasn't the original name of the restaurant. The original name Ting-Tai-<deleted> is a quite famous place in Bangkok and then some business thing happened here and they changed to Shanghai, but very similar menu choices, the featured items are hand pulled noodles / dumplngs, etc, so basically this is a Pattaya version of the Bangkok place in some form.

I thought this place was way too important to be only a mention on this thread ... thus the dedicated thread.

Anyway, here is the thread:

http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/609362-new-chinese-restaurant-in-pattaya-ting-tai-<deleted>-off-3rd-road-north/

There are a number of noodle options there, dry or wet.

It is not a perfect restaurant ... some dishes are much better than others. Over time, the dishes change ... sometimes for the better, sometimes not. They have also added a lot of dishes since opening, largely Sechuan influence, but not exactly Sechuan food you would write home to Chengdu about. On the other hand, the prices are friendly enough to sample a number of dishes.

For much more authentic Sechuan, there is the EXPENSIVE place in INNER Jomtien (near County Road bar into the soi) which I have posted about. That's actually the REAL THING.

Ah. My brain must have given up the struggle at "Ting-Tai-<deleted>", whatever that means.

I have made a note of the location of this place and will go up there some time and try it. In fact now that I think about it I may even have already noticed it when driving past.

Just a quickie:

A few blocks on Tappraya Road Jomtien becoming "Better" Breakfast Row.

Check it out:

On Tappraya, starting from Tepprasit going towards the beach, you've got

Continental (the old and famous one)

La Pomme (Mediterranean, only place to get SHAKSHUKA in Jomtien)

Pastrami and Rye (coming soon and reportedly will be doing American style breakfasts)

Then a little further down:

Lindas (Scandinavian a bit upscale)

Across the street a little into Jomtien Complex you've got Sam's Mexican doing some different kinds of American / Mexican American breakfasts, including lox and bagels

Starting from Tepprasit going south, you've got ? WHAT DOES IT MEAN ? I do not understand what means going south in this case as this road is not going south AT ALL.

And also can you tell me where is the Sophon Soi where there is another Vietnamese restaurant ?

Thank you, and sorry for being retarded (me myself and I :-) )

I would add the Sketchbook to the list, a funky place in front of View Talay 5D with a nice garden setting.

If anyone interested , Domino's Pizza opened up a new branch in Naklua opposite Boncafe , and there's a 50% discount on all the small and medium pizzas. Since I were passing by I ordered a medium pepperoni pizza and paid 160 baht , but I was not very impressed. Think I prefer my Italian favourite in Jomtien for 200 baht . Would never pay almost 400 baht for this.
