Anyone know if their is a maximum distance you can put a pump from the tank?

I want the tank by the supply but the pump under the house probably 10 to 12 meteres away

You can put the pump anywhere you like so long as (to be a bit ridicules, lets say 5 kilometres away) the friction loss in the pipe work and the elevation are within the operating conditions of the pump.

As an example, think about the location of the pump station for the water supply in a large city, the pump station could be 10 -20 - 30 kilometres or more from your house. No problem - it just comes down to the correct hydraulic design and construction.

In your case there is no problem - but don't penny pinch, use 3/4" or 1" pipe from the pump and into the house - Thai's usually use 1/2" pipe cause it's a few Baht cheaper metre.

Thanks

good question - silly me -it's to pump water out of tank into house and there would be less than 1 meter elevation

You haven't specified what type of pump you are using. If its a centrifugal type then it needs a positive head, ie the water level in the tank to be well above the pump suction. This is not the case with a WP type pump. If you have any sort of positive head then with a reasonable size suction pupe the distance from the tank to the pump doesn't really matter. As said use 3/4" discharge pipework
