Where To Buy Ultrasound Device To Scare Pidgeons Away?

preferably in the Pattaya area.

Thank you for any leads.

(I don't need other advice such as fake owls, snakes, nets... the only methods that can help at my place are: shotgun, poison or ultrasound).

I'd also be interested in such a device.

It would have to be a pretty localised device, as I don't necessarily want to scare off the other birds (kingfishers, myna birds, treeswallows, open-billed storks, egrets etc).

We're in Phetchabun.

unfortunately, ultrasound will also scare other birds.

If you know some electronics, you can build yourself an audio amplifier that will scare pigeons (and many other birds)

you need to find the proper frequency that will put the pigeons away by trial and error.
the only problem is that pigeons have much lower frequency hearing range.

Just like other birds, they are sensitive to ultra-low-frequency pressure changes, that's why the know when it's going to rain smile.png

here is how you can build it:

https://groups.google.com/forum/#!forum/portable-sound-blaster

that circuit is for dogs, higher frequency about 12-15Khz, for pigeons you need to tune like 0.125 - 3.0 Khz

Grab yourself a .177 or .22 Air Rifle....

Bung a nice scope with mildots on it and pop them off smile.png

Yes.

Light up a stogie, grab a cold one and sit in a nice perch.

To support your thread I post a link to a similar thread I opened some time ago, so you can have a look at the results.

http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/609986-ultrasonic-bird-repeller/

The one I pictured in the OP are available on Aliexpress for around 30$ if I recall correctly, but I have never bothered to order one.

+ import tax 30% or more on China electronics :(

Well that's actually a subject for another topic, but I've never paid any import tax on goods below 2 kg send by EMS from China.

If this helps I had a huge problem with pigeons on my patio. Discovered by accident that roasted coffee beans kept them away. I roasted green coffee beans on patio to keep smell and chaff outside. Put a couple of shallow small plastic containers with some beans on patio and on top of a/c. I assume this would work with pre-roasted beans or even ground coffee. You could always heat some roasted beans on a pan or using a heat gun where the pigeon problem is in case it is the smell of roasting coffee that initially repels them

I have paid 7% VAT on some parcels from China / HK. Thailand has trade agreements with those countries. Most of the stuff simply arrives in my mailbox

Really?

The pigeons dont like the smell of coffee? I find that hard to believe.

In my case, the birds drink from the swimming pool and there a lot of birds. After a refreshing drink... they like to drop a stool just before take off and it usually plops right on the tile. It piles up during the day and if the maid doesnt clean it. Plus they drop after wheels up and this can go into the pool too. Is this a health hazard?

Just this morning I was swimming and saw one land on the railing nearby, afraid to approach while I was swimming. He let one loose that was so huge and loud there was an echo in the enclosed area nearby.

The Australian Electronics Magazines have had a series of Ultrasonic Barking Dog articles over the years.

If it's a whooping sound, when all the other birds are quiet, it's probably a coucal ( http://www.pbase.com/peterericsson/greater_coucal). They're a relative of the cuckoo. They don't really bother me - I quite like them.

Regards

PS: My main annoyance is the pigeon poop.

The ultrasonic devices available for mice moles etc do not work (google it, lots of places have done tests) so I'm not sure that if you do get a unit whether it will actually do the job its supposed to.

hmm... the balcony guard is advertized with a frequency range of 16 to 27 KHz.... something doesn't add up.

I guess the obvious thing to do is to order a couple on Aliexpress

EDIT: I found a source about the hearing range of pidgeons, and it is in the range of 200 to 7500 Hz, or 0.2 to 7.5 KHz.

EDIT 2: in the light of the above, I realize I misnamed the thread - I am really looking for an infrasound device, not an ultrasound device.

my further research on the subject (from airport protection studies) indicates that:

- there currently is little research data on the subject of the effects of ultra low sound on birds and pidgeons in particular

- the frequency for pidgeons should be in the range of 0.2 to 7 KHz

- the required sound intensity is high (>80 dB in the effect area, so probably around 110-120 dB one meter away from the device)

@jackflash: is it possible to build such a device?

what's the effective range and penetration of such a BB gun or is that an air gun? Edited by manarak

0.2 - 7kHz will drive you and your neighbours up the wall, that frequency range is slap in the middle of what we can hear.

Try reading this. It talks about ultra sound devices for dogs and a DIY water spurter.

How to Keep Dogs Out of Your Yard
If your neighborhood dogs or stray dogs are coming into your yard and causing damage, this article will provide you with some simple steps to keep dogs out of your yard.

One of my neighbors has recently got a medium-sized black Labrador. Being a dog lover, I like playing and feeding him, but one thing that I don't like is that my neighbors let him poop in my yard every day and every morning I find myself cleaning their dog's defecate, scattered in my yard. Moreover, the dog has ruined my landscaping and the grass looks and stinks like hell with all different shades of green caused by reactions with the urine. This is not only bothering me but also causing sleepless nights for my parents. The worst is even after speaking to them there is no change in the dog's habit. But as I was about to give up, one of my friends who has faced the same situation months ago shared some easy and effective ways to keep dogs out of your yard...

I am sure most of us would have come across this experience where we find ourselves helpless and frustrated. But now one need not worry as here are a couple of solutions that will help you figure out ways of keeping dogs out of your yard.

Devices that Work as Dog Repellents

Ultrasonic Motion Sensing Animal Repellent
It is a battery operated, self contained unit that comprises a motion sensor which senses a movement up to 20 feet away. Once the motion is detected, it turns on its powerful and extremely loud 124dB ultrasonic piezo siren, for a few seconds. It is so strong and irritating that the dog instantly scampers off and if the dog tries to return, it blasts again. It has another advantage and that is that this animal repellent is completely safe and will cause no damage to the animal's hearing powers. Since it is ultrasonic, it is inaudible to humans and so won't bother you, as your yard is being protected.

YardContro Electronic Yard Fence
This is another battery operated device capable of protecting a 360 degree area around the sensor. This unit employs a radar to determine movement up to 15 feet away for a total coverage of 700 square feet. Having an effective sound frequency which is adjustable from 8 kHz to 50 khz, it not only keeps dogs off the yard but also deer, cats, and other small ground mammals.

Scarecrow Sprinkler
This homemade dog repellent device immediately releases a short but startling burst of water when it detects dogs or any other animal in the vicinity. The sudden water, movement and noise scares the animals away, and discourages them from invading the area again. Being safe and eco-friendly, all it requires is small amount of water. It can cover approximately 1200 square feet area and due to its highly sensitive motion detector, it has an ability to detect small as well as large animals.

Tips on How to Keep Dogs Out of Yard
Remove any sources of food and scraps from the yard as food can be one of the prime reasons for the dog entering the yard.
Close all outside entrances like underneath decks and porches to help keep stray dogs out of the yard.
If you have a female dog, it is better you get her spayed as this will not only keep male dogs off your yard but will also control the pet population.
Construct a sturdy, fairly high fence around the perimeter of your yard to hinder the dog's access to it.
If you are facing recurring problem with dogs especially stray dogs, contact your local dog warden and register a complaint.
These were some simple ways to keep dogs out of your yard and prevent them from damaging it. I hope these measures prove to be helpful and next time you won't have to come across any such annoying and unpleasant experiences.
