Hua Hin tourism expands rapidly; 20% rise in available rooms expected

PRACHUAP KHIRI KHAN, May 25 - Hua Hin tourim has expanded rapidly, prompting to a forecast of a 20-per cent increase of room availability in the resort town.

Roongroj Seeluangsawat, Hua Hin-Cha am Tourism Association chairman, said the number of tourists visiting Hua Hin annually has reached 2.5 million, of whom 40 per cent are foreign tourists. There are currently some 13,000 hotel rooms available in the town.

Meanwhile, Nopporn Wuttikul, mayor of Hua Hin municipality, said the city will develop the town plan and move the municipality office, public schools and provincial waterworks office to suburbs in order to change areas in the town centre to become parking buildings and improve the town's layout and traffic system. A budget of some Bt100 million is expected for the modification.

There is also a plan to invest in water purification equipment with a budget of Bt30 million to produce water supply to meet demand, while another Bt11 million will used to connect raw water pipelines from nearby Phetchaburi province to Hua Hin for 24-hour water transport.

Closed-circuit television cameras are to be installed around the town as well to create confidence among tourists and holiday goers. (MCOT online news)

Tourism expands rapidly, but there is a rise in room availability. When will this happen?

And closed circuit cameras don't instill confidence for me. Cameras are great after the crime has been committed. Not much for deterrence.

The towns infastructure really does need modernising, better roads, more parking etc, this would be welcomed by most residents of Hua Hin im sure. water supply is also currently a problem for some of us living on the outskirts of town so hopefully this can be resolved as well, will look forward to the changes starting soon hopefully.

There is a BIG difference with "Will be", "Are to be" in Thailand. It makes the Thai's feel good that they can plan out things... I am sure they will be super happy when they can carry through a project without to much fuss.

It would be also nice when REPORTERS can use what brain cell they have and work out that a rise in available rooms does not equal a rise in Tourism.

It actually means that Hua Hin has less tourism...

I wonder how much Hua Hin has been hit with bad publicity? Will Thailand forget the face saving scenario, the "it will be ok" and instead be proactive in fixing the problems that Thailand has?

while this only touches the need for more tap water due to rising water waste, nobody cars about any solution to the problem of waste water.

Hua Hin Beach in the rainy season, when the tides are high and aimed towards the shore, reveal that there is a waste water problem throughout the whole place. Grey-toned beaches tell of feces carried back by the surf. Did anyone ever dare to do a water quality check ? The mussels that are abundant on the rocks are telling you that they are happily feeding on human's remains.

Hua Hin's housing development is a big joke and has lead to dozens of villages half sold, half connected, already full of dumped construction leftovers, dirt canals, piles of debris , everywhere in the outskirts of Hua HIn it is an incredible Chaos of bad infrastructure, illegal dumps, rubbish littering every street, soi dogs are spreading their turf, the smell starts rising.

I wonder how foreigner can still call Hua Hin a "paradise city". Probably NEVER ever been to any spanish,danish, dutch, baltic or mediterranean sea resort. All these are by light years cleaner and more enjoyable than Hua Hin's beaches.

Is it the cheap availability of SEX and the cheap availability of cheap street food and the cheap counterfeit goods that attract customers ?

And . .WHO wants to live inside a dump ?

Pardon me for not understanding why do more rooms means less tourism? I would of thought it actually means it has the capacity for more

To me this means a decline in tourism.

No it is actually a big increase in rooms due to a number of new hotels both small and international groups
