There's an old saying...

Why are sayings always 'old' - does the age of a saying provide some sort of credibility? Would the saying's value be increased if you were to say,'There's this ancient saying, its origins lost in the mists of time...'? Have you ever heard someone say, 'There's a relatively recent saying...'? Should this post have been (1) in the Random thread, or (2) not posted at all?
