LONDON: -- The Duchess of Cambridge has given birth to a baby boy, Kensington Palace has announced.

The baby was delivered at 16:24 BST at St Mary's Hospital in Paddington, west London, weighing 8lb 6oz.

The Duke of Cambridge said in a statement the couple "could not be happier". He and the duchess will remain in the hospital overnight.

The news has been displayed on an easel in the forecourt of Buckingham Palace in line with tradition.

A bulletin - signed by the Queen's gynaecologist Marcus Setchell, who led the medical team that delivered the baby - was taken by a royal aide from St Mary's to the palace under police escort.

If the child grows up to be a transvestite, can he be both a King and a Queen? If he is gay can he "marry" another man ?

Wow....so many questions................................

Once again the best of TV drags itself out of bed to post negativity.

Even the birth of a child is something to whinge about.

Here let me cheer you all up with a beer to your liking.

I think many people, like myself, can't understand why others have any appreciation for the peerage system (of England). My impression is that it's mostly a situation of incurring a lot of extra expense to pamper certain families with a lavish lifestyle . Don't get me wrong, I'm not being critical of royalty or the idea of peerage privileges. It's just that growing up without such a situation, I've never been able to see the benefits or advantages of it.

Anyway, congrats to the mother and father. Glad it all went okay and all that (but no more than I would congratulate or feel good for the young couple who lives next door to me).

You are mistaken. The members of the Royal Family are big news, at least in America. Princess Diana was, and William and Kate are like rock stars when they visit the US. The whole country almost comes to a standstill.

This baby should be beautiful. First there was Diana who added height and beauty to the family and bore two tall and very handsome sons. Now Duke of Cambridge has married the tall and gorgeous Kate and their son may be the toast of anywhere he goes.

Congratulations and I wish the best for all of them.

I agree. I've got nothing against those two, certainly seem to be nice people. But they are just regular people. Nothing "royal" or special about them as far as I can tell. I guess it's my American upbringing that rebels against royal treatment of individuals simply based on lineage. Sadly, the American press does make a big deal out of this, which means the sheeps (aka American public) will think it's a big deal.

Yep,

Just another mouth for the tax paying public to feed.

Who will probably generate more revenue for the country than most tax paying public.

In keeping with Britain's multiculturalism, perhaps they should name him Piotr Abdulla Cambridge.

The picture of the Birth announcement appears to have been pre- printed. Maybe a standard government form with an assumtion that there was not any complications with the birth

The total of £35.1 million to the UK tax payer for the Royal Family is dwarfed by the £226.5 million profit passed to the Treasury by the Crown Estate.

From a newspaper article, URL below “Claims that a republican head of state would be less costly are absurd. The German presidency costs about the same as the Queen, but how many tourists line the streets of Berlin to catch a glimpse of – er – what is his name?”

Personally I believe it's great to have a Head of State who is not politically appointed, along with the continuation of UK tradition and ceremony.

Long live the Queen!

I agree Thaddeus. Bloody marvelous news old chap. A lovely couple. Just the tourist dollars/pounds generated by the royal family more than covers their cost to the tax paying public.

I'm not trying to be difficult, but I stopped believing much presented my main-stream media a long time ago. The world of news was bought up by the rich and privileged and has served as a propaganda vehicle for their interests, so I won't even bother to read the Telegraph article.

I'd just like to know how the £226.5 million profit is passed to the Treasury by the Crown Estate. How is that money generated? What products or services do the royalty provide to make such decent profits?

(I hope this doesn't sound challenging. It's not. I'm just really curious to know the source of this income.)

Well i am very pleased for them, they are a lovely couple, and one day this baby will be King.

As much as I love French wine and cheese I would have much preferred it if they had managed to export their revolution more successfully smile.png

May God bless him and all who sail in him.............I name this baby HMS Cambridge.........3 cheers, now down the pub lads.
