I think many people, like myself, can't understand why others have any appreciation for the peerage system (of England). My impression is that it's mostly a situation of incurring a lot of extra expense to pamper certain families with a lavish lifestyle . Don't get me wrong, I'm not being critical of royalty or the idea of peerage privileges. It's just that growing up without such a situation, I've never been able to see the benefits or advantages of it.

Anyway, congrats to the mother and father. Glad it all went okay and all that (but no more than I would congratulate or feel good for the young couple who lives next door to me).

I hate all the hype over this and how people from all around the world were getting so excited over a family/baby that they will probably never meet and who couldn't give a shit about them.

Yep,

Just another mouth for the tax paying public to feed.

The total of £35.1 million to the UK tax payer for the Royal Family is dwarfed by the £226.5 million profit passed to the Treasury by the Crown Estate.

From a newspaper article, URL below “Claims that a republican head of state would be less costly are absurd. The German presidency costs about the same as the Queen, but how many tourists line the streets of Berlin to catch a glimpse of – er – what is his name?”

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/theroyalfamily/7850335/The-Royal-family-is-a-bargain-for-Britain.html

Personally I believe it's great to have a Head of State who is not politically appointed, along with the continuation of UK tradition and ceremony.

Long live the Queen!

I'm not trying to be difficult, but I stopped believing much presented my main-stream media a long time ago. The world of news was bought up by the rich and privileged and has served as a propaganda vehicle for their interests, so I won't even bother to read the Telegraph article.

I'd just like to know how the £226.5 million profit is passed to the Treasury by the Crown Estate. How is that money generated? What products or services do the royalty provide to make such decent profits?

(I hope this doesn't sound challenging. It's not. I'm just really curious to know the source of this income.)

Well i am very pleased for them, they are a lovely couple, and one day this baby will be King.

As much as I love French wine and cheese I would have much preferred it if they had managed to export their revolution more successfully smile.png

A post with a link to a commercial site has been deleted.

Scott, the link that you deleted in my response to post#24 is not a purely commercial site, but the Crown Estate Office governed by an Act of Parliament. I trust you will not delete the link as I have reposted below. From the "about us"; We are governed by an Act of Parliament and work supportively with government; in Westminster, in Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and at a local level. Our net surplus (profit) goes to the Treasury for the benefit of the nation.
