US hopes Thailand's crisis ends through peaceful means

BANGKOK, Dec 6 - The US Pacific Commander Admiral Samuel J. Locklear and US ambassador to Thailand Kristie Kennie today met with Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra, urging Thailand to solve the current political turmoil through peaceful means.

The visiting US Pacific commander is in Bangkok to attend the celebration of King Bhumibol Adulyadej's 86th birthday.

He and the American ambassador paid a courtesy call to the Thai premier at Government House this morning.

The US commander praised Prime Minister Yingluck for exercising restraint and a non-violent approach in handling resolution of the political situation and reaffirmed that the US stands ready to support her government's implementation of democratic means to resolution of the political conflict, according to the Thai government's official website.

Prime Minister Yingluck gave assurances to the US that her government adheres to using peaceful means to resolve the problem through democratic means and is willing to hold talks with all parties to find a solution. The premier also stated that her government will not invoke enforcement of the Emergency Decree, the government's website reports.

Adm Locklear told reporters that he felt honoured to be a part of the monarch's birthday celebration and affirmed long standing and close ties between Thailand and the United States.

The US ambassador said the United States has been closely monitoring the situation in Thailand and that it hopes Thailand will solve the problems through dialogues to restore peace in the country.

She emphasised that friendship between the two countries will continue.

Prime Minister Yingluck today entered her office to work normally after anti-government protesters briefly occupied Government House grounds two days ago.

Officials are speeding up preparations and decorations for tomorrow evening's official state reception to celebrate the king's Dec 5 birthday. (MCOT online news)

Hollow diplomatic words. If anyone thinks that the US would set foot on Thai soil to help control an internal conflict, he's dreaming. Now, if Thailand were being attacked by an outside force that would be another story because of the mutual defense treaty.

The US wants (supports) a democratic rather than violent resolution, but it has no control over it.

It is OK for a women to change her mind about the color of her fingernails but when she is the Prime Minister she should be able to say who she will not talk to and stick to the decision for more than 8 hours, Who knows what her next decision will be? Or will she just make a phone call to Dubai.

Exactly what is Yingluck's 'corruption' ? The opposition constantly screams that word, we heard about Thaksins tax evading satelite deal.. but Yingluck? She's constantly being called this, if she has done something illegal then a prosecution would remove her from office. And then there's this 'vote buying' charge against the PhuaThai.. the elections since the coup have been internationally monitored, where's the proof, if there were vote buying then Pms can be disqualified.. And the Phua Thai's margin of victory in the last election was wide, making the 'vote buying' charge more irrelevant, even if there was, she was still elected by the people.

It's a certainty that many Americans would be concerned about Admiral Locklear's comment regarding his pledge to offer US support to Yingluck's government for democratic resolution. In case the admiral wasn't aware that Thailand is being run by a rogue, convicted exiled PM, Ms. Yingluck's brother, who was removed from office by military coup in 2006. Since then he has been fomenting and engendering discontent from hi overseas bases in Montenegro and Dubai and two years ago was successful in planting his sister in office as his PM puppet.

Ambassador Kenny and Admiral Locklear should be well aware of what's going on in Thailand and that it is a kleptocracy masquerading as a democracy. Thailand suffers no true free press or speech, no true rule of law, no equal representation, no real separation of church and state, no human rights culture and safeguards, totally corrupted society, police, and military and a culture of counterfeiting, discrimination and exclusion. Thailand is a kleptocracy masquerading as a democracy. There will be more protests, more killing, more coups, and more circling the wagons and discussing it. Until there is a full scale effort to reverse these characteristics of dictatorship, a dictator has a better chance of appearing than anything else.

There are many US citizens who object to this unconditional support of Thailand based on its known criminal profile. The US State department, and The US Defense department should carefully evaluate what Thailand is all about before offering its unconditional support and taxpayer money for programs in Thailand in meetings with the sister of Thaksin Shiniwatra.

How could talks that weren't taking place and that Suthep unequivocally rejected be 'suspended'? There has to be ongoing dialogue in the first place for dialogue to be suspended, and there never was. However, you can bet that negotiations will still be ongoing behind the scenes.

Once again the US sticking their unwanted noses in other people's business. This time offering support of a corrupt Government, the only democratically elected party in the past 12 years. Maybe they should talk to the people of Thailand before making quick judgement and offers of support. If they want to help, then help throw the Government out and help stop corruption.
