Good tv series

Featured Replies

Perhaps a bit dated now but a well made series based on stuff during WW2 Hastings,  you should start at episode "one" as there is a background of private life to the different challenges they deal with..

"The State", a UK series about people going to Syria to fight with ISIS.

Just finished watching it. Not bad, but not great, either.

I binned Outsiders the first time round- have given it another chance and its growing on me. Some bits are a bit silly but its watchable.

Peaky blinders>>>>>  double thumbs up

Series 4 starts in the UK next month. It'll be a while before it makes Netflix but iPlayer and a VPN will do the trick for now.

Washington Spies is a good one.

Ken Burns's new documentary, The Vietnam War. First episode released on the 17th September and a new episode released each day. Meant to be the definitive documentary on the Vietnam war with interviews from all sides. Took ten years of research. So far, it's excellent. Has an imdb score of 9.2.

"Deuce"

A look at life in New York City during the 1970s and '80s when porn and prostitution were rampant in Manhattan

Has Gillian Gyllenhaal in it who is supposed to have turned in a great performance. Funny how movie stars are clamouring to get on to quality TV shows now that we are in "the golden age of TV".

Not really surprising as most modern movies are now formulaic, prequels, sequels, or just another movie in a franchise.

It's actually called The Deuce.

"Big little lies" was fantastic!!  great writers and actresses...

"Relik" sounds like it maybe a good one.

A serial killer thriller told in reverse.

Another new one is "The Brave", not sure about this one but am DLing and will check it out.

The complex world of our bravest military heroes who make personal sacrifices while executing the most challenging and dangerous missions behind enemy lines.

Looks like a good cast.

I'm currently watching Escape to the Chateau about a guy and his wife going to France and refurbishing an old Chateau. You would want to drown his partner/wife in the moat within 5 minutes but Dick Strawbridge always has an unbending enthusiasm in his programs. Cramming 11 months into 3 45 minute episodes means a lot is being missed out though. Season 3 has just started

I notice that for Brits out there the 54th series of Have i Got News for You starts on Friday. Extended versions should be on the net by Mon/Tues.

Again for the Brits there is a 6 part documentary on Only Fools and Horses on the net (5 parts available so far).

Any ideas where to access this as it's on Gold, which I don't believe has a catchup. I haven't dowloaded a torrent for years!

PM sent as I don't know if we can mention certain sites and processes!

Yep. Have to agree with you on most of this, although it does have lots of opinions of both sides and touches a lot of things that Americans won't like seeing about their own country, most of it still focuses on the poor white college guy who has to be drafted for War instead of the real victims, the Vietnamese and that blacks got the wrong end of the drafting process.

Amazing quality footage and some of it heartbreaking to watch.

I'd love to know what happened to the North Vietnamese soldiers who spoke out against their government in it.

Brilliant series and a must watch.

The BBC are showing it in 10 one hour episodes but its really 18 hours in length in 10 episodes and its on the net.

A very good copy of "6 days" available at the usual sites, not a bad movie.

In April 1980, armed gunmen stormed the Iranian Embassy in Princes Gate, London and took all inside hostage. Over the next six days a tense standoff took place, all the while a group of highly trained soldiers from the SAS prepared for a raid the world had never seen.

Personally i thought they did it on the cheap and it came as no surprise as to who the advisor was on the film. A LCpl telling people how to take down an embassy just made me laugh. I found it difficult to watch even as entertainment. This was the benchmark of modern anti- terrorism operations and the film did not do it justice IMHO

Narcos Season 3 once I finish the Vietnam series (which is truly excellent and a lot of new footage).

For any Brits out there the new series of HIGNFY is 2 episodes in. Wait til about Wed of the following week and the extended version is usually available.

Detectives. Murder on the streets is a very good 4 part British fly on wall show

American Made

This movie is like a meeting with old Narcos friends. Escobar, Ochoa, Noriega and Berry Seal on board of a crazy trip. I enjoyed the movie and i not thought i would ever say this again about a Tom Cuise movie lol.

Started to watch Patriot but not really managed to get into it yet, maybe I'll try again sometime.  The lead and main supporting characters seem intent on bursting into song every 20 minutes, it's like a bleedin' musical!

Just finished watching Patriot. One series, 10 episodes.

A spy comedy.  Starts slow, but is very well written. The humor is subtle and interlaced with the spy business.

Couldn't stop watching towards the end.

TV series just starting "Gunpowder", Dl'd but not watched yet, sounds ok though.

British activist Guy Fawkes and a group of provincial English Catholics plan to blow up the House of Lords and kill King James I in the early 17th century.
