I have no problem recomending dr Chawen at Sriburin either on the grounds of car, consideration, and lack of overcharge. His English is sufficent. I just have had two teeth removed and hardly any pain and he has taken a lot of care with the false teeth he is making. He seems much more careful to ensure a good fit than my last Australian dentist.

He is a really nice guy too and does not seem to look on foreigners as diferent to anyone else.

How did you make an appointment Harrry?

Some years ago Mr Bell invented a thing called a telephone. Although common belief is that it is only used by young females and mostly to take images of them and there friends making peace signs or the meal they ate at central it has another function to.

Kasemrad Sriburin

111/5 Asian street 1 Moo 13, Amphur Muang, Chiang Rai 57000.

0 5391 0999 Fax 0 5315 3233

]Emergency call[/b] 0 5370 0200

The phone may ask to press a number....press 0 for call centre and ask for the dentist.

Reception English is not good but should be able to be handled. Daytime hours (before 4pm only).

Cheewan Upra

It is better of course if you go yourself. He is full time. There is a lady dentist partime some recomend too but personally I would take Cheewan.

Many thanks, are you sure they don't accept messages by carrier pigeon? tongue.png

As long as they include a bag of bird feed for the return birdage.

Recommend Wanpaya Dental Clinic, Doctor works at Sriburin during the day and runs her business after hours. She practiced in Australia and has all the latest training and equipment. The clinic is near Bandu market.

Sounds like both the Sriburin dentists come reccomended.

Dr Wanpaya is as good as I've had.

Really gentle and excellent English.

The only problem is that she only works at Sriburin on

Thursday and Fridays between 0900 and 1200 as she

seems to be devoting more time to her own clinic.

It also doesn't hurt that she spent a long time in Perthwink.png

I remember you telling us about this last year but could not recall the name.

I need nothing as drastic as root canal, just a little patching up and some mechanical work.

I'd prefer to go to a private clinic so will consider both.

I've only ever had Dental work at Sriburin here. The last time was with Dr Wanpaya for root canal treatment a couple of years ago. She really is outstanding, It took 3 sessions and Zero pain, I've used two others there too, again excellent Dentists. I used to have a Phobia for Dentists but at Sriburin it's almost a pleasant experience.

Wanpaya clinic sorted me out (many have tried over the years) very efficiently and painlessly a few weeks ago. Highly recommended. And bear in mind I am a gibbering cowherd when it comes to the dentist.

I went to Sriburin in person and made an appointment with Dr. Wanpaya for SCALING....the receptionist assured me that she did this and even gave me a written appointment card with the date/time/and procedure SCALING written on the card. A week later I show up for my appointment, present my card and wait. I'm shown into the office and sit in the chair...she asks what I need and I say SCALING...she says "oh we don't do that here". While I am a bit surprised since it clearly says it on my appointment card and mention that perhaps her staff doesn't understand what scaling is even though they wrote it on the card.

Dr. looks in my mouth for perhaps 30 seconds MAX and then tells me what I already knew and that was that I needed scaling. So I ask where I might get this done and she says she will give me name of a Dr./ Periodonist that does this. Fair enough. So I thank her and of course don't mention that they have wasted my time/gas/effort. I would estimate I was in her chair a max of ONE MINUTE.

Then as I am leaving the receptionist hands me a BILL for 380 baht. I naturally tell her that the DR. did nothing and was unable to do the procedure that THEY had said she could and showed them the card that THEY had written. I told them they must be mistaken as the Dr had done nothing but look in my mouth which I did not ask her to do. But wouldn't you know they refused to budge and kept saying that I owed them 380 baht.

So I asked to see the Dr. again and when she came out showed her the card and again explained that since she was not able to perform the procedure that HER STAFF had confirmed I hardly thought I should pay....she of course speaks very good English but to my absolute amazement she continued to say it was a "facility charge" and disappears...no help whatsoever.....next a lady from the Sriburin staff appears and I have to again go through the entire story and again she doesn't want to waive anything. Absolutely AMAZING is what I am thinking. Not so much the 380 baht but the nerve to ask me to pay them for THEIR MISTAKE. After going round and round for a while the Sriburin admin lady finally consented though they all looked and acted to me like I was the one who should apologize. I was cool and calm and never raised my voice even once.

Frankly I was disappointed that the Dr. did not take charge and tell the reception to write mistake and destroy the invoice but she did nothing other than pass the buck to the admin.

Needless to say it was a strange experience and I am not likely to set foot in Sriburin dental clinic again....

What you describe sounds more like a Thailand experience than a dental one. laugh.png

Seriously, where I come from you have to pay upfront before you even see the Dr/dentist and good luck getting money back after they already have their hands on it.

I have the impression while the lady in question is without doubt a great dentist she mainly is concerned with major work like root fillings and implants. It is why I saw the other dentist and am glad I did,.

As a guide only to costs the full top plate and partial lower plate I just got cost a total of 23000 baht over 5 visits. At least this one I seem to be able to eat with, the one I got in Australia I could not.

Just a guide if anyone is interested in comparisons, if not ignore.

I cracked a tooth recently, resulting in a fair amount of pain. Both Sriburin and Overbrook had no answer other than to pull the tooth, which I was not willing to do. The dentist at Overbrook did recommend either CMU or CDJ in Chiang Mai and gave clear reasons for choosing one over the other.

I opted for CDJ, booked a nice hotel in the Nimman area and we turned the trip into a weekend getaway. Both the dental clinic and the hotel were amazing and we had a great time. I will probably need two more trips before I get my final crown but it is worth it to keep my tooth, and my tooth already feels better after the work they did. I found both the equipment and staff far better at CDJ than either Sriburin or Overbrook.
I could have asked other farangs for advice but I have always preferred to use Thai contacts to source information in Thailand. It just makes sense to me that Thais know more about Thailand than the odd foreigner and it has always worked out for me.
