BANGKOK: -- The Royal Thai Navy has denied any connection to a group of suspects allegedly arrested on suspicion of carrying firearms and plotting to kidnap the Prime Minister.

The 5 men were reportedly arrested in Rayong province on 24 February. The police also confiscated 7 handguns the men were carrying at the time of their arrest.

Police officers in Rayong province have refused to talk on the record with our correspondent about the case so far, but rumours soon surfaced that the suspects were Navy SEALs team on a mission to kidnap Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra as threatened by anti-government protest leader Suthep Thaugsuban.

Rear Admiral Karn Dee-Ubon, spokesman of the Royal Thai Navy, later denied the allegation.

He admitted that 3 of the 5 suspects were ex-servicemen of the navy, but RADM Karn added that they have left the service "long ago" and have been working as security guards for Suvarnabhumi Airport. Two other suspects are civilians, the spokesman said.

Nevertheless, the commander-in-chief of the Royal Thai Navy has acknowledged the incident and ordered an investigation into the allegation, said RADM Karn.

"Let me stress that all Navy servicemen ... are neutral and not involved in politics," the spokesman said in an interview.

The Royal Thai Navy had been previously accused of having a hand in political violence in Bangkok when a group of Navy officers were arrested last month with firearms and ammunition at a checkpoint in Bangkok, along with ID cards for anti-government protest security guards.

The navy eventually denied the allegation and claimed that the suspects were undercover navy agents on a mission to track down narcotics dealers.

according to bangkok post, they were arrested, because they did not pay for a hotel, they were staying, for several nights, and refused to move out. Cops were called by the receptionist

Very strange tale from Khaosod. The other report is stating NOTHING to do with Yingluck but a local wannabe who hired bodyguards..

The question would be who could possibly gain from the kidnapping of Yingluck.... or more likely a rumour of it?

note the police do not want to say anything about it, obviously thaksin and co havent set up any "evidence" as yet to match what they are going to claim. This keeps getting worse, why would anyone want to kidnap someone as stupid as yl, no one would pay for her release.

The pressure has been mounting. She visits fruit, but not grieving parents. She comes face to face with produce, but uses Facebook to deal with victims families. Not a good look.

She won’t face the farmers. Not a good look.

She is in hiding and unable to lead the country. So what can thaksins’ police do? Perfect excuse for why she has to stay in hiding. Lets say someone wants to kidnap her.

All rumor. No one’s name is mentioned except the guy denying.

Gullible will lap it up. Gullible will feel sorry for yingluck. As George Bush famously said "Mission accomplished"

I'm would not be surprised to see the "Mission Accomplished" banner George used on the aircraft carrier hanging in Adul's office.

Next?

In a way, I personally think that anyone who would kidnap YL has a secret death wish. Forget any ransom, as there are some "Rabid Reds" who would go on a rampage to free her, and maim and kill anyone who stood in their way.

Just my 2 stang worth. coffee1.gif

LOL, if true. Good way for a kidnap team to keep a low profile.

Khaosod, let's the put the record straight once and for all, shall we ? Suthep pointedly said as recently as two days ago that there was no campaign to " kidnap " Yingluck. Do yourselves a favour. Quote people directly.

they aren't going to kidnap her because they want a ransom, they want to get her out of the way to end her government. either they are using the wrong word in English or they don't understand kidnapping very well.

This is pure rumor-mongering by Kahosod. The kidnap-plot speculation has already been convincingly disproved by other (slightly more reputable) sources.

Calm down everybody!

Offer her to the Arabs as a domestic worker, with happy endings, in exchange for delivering her brother to the Thai courts for sentencing.

Before believing the story, just look at who created the rumours. The same people who are so biased in favour of Thaksin that 20 people have been killed and 720 have been injured and not a single suspect has been arrested. But when Kwanchai was hurt, they found the people very quickly.

And Suthep always tells the truth and never changes his mind? He is a savy, ruthless political mastermind who knows what he wants (power) and will sacrafice and manipulate anyone towards his goals. He is "connected" in Thailand's elite class and exhibits degrees of corruption equally on par with alleged corruption of Thaskin. He is the Yin to Thaskin' Yang.

There has been a lot of misquoting from the press recently, particularly from the Shinawatra controlled section, I assume since the armed attacks on the peaceful anti government protesters is not doing their image much good and they are losing support they need to twist things to rally support for the PTP.
