at the risk of sounding a bit thick! when asked for certified copies of passports on visa application checklists, by whom should they be certified by, oneself, just signed and dated or somebody else?

If you view this THREAD the list of items for a UK VV was given to ChrisP by his agent and it states in items 1 and 2 the answer your looking for.

This is an extensive list but ChrisP boyfriend passed so if you can show all these items theres not alot they can say really.

Any "trustworthy" person can certify a copy; i.e. write on each page of the copy that it's a true likeness of the original document. Most solicitors will do it for a fee, but some voluntary organisations will do it gratis. Possibly try your local CAB. Failing that, if you know a JP, copper, teacher, civil servant etc., their moniker should be as equally acceptable.

To be honest, however, I personally don't see the need to certify a document unless failing to do so could lead to accusations of the copy having been tampered with.
