Pattaya is a complete cesspit containing the scum of humanity...

Does anyone want to meet up there next weekend for a few beers? PM me!

You want to come over for the weekend to make the necessary observations to start a similar thread after the weekend ?

Bloody hell a lot of TV members really taking the post to heart. I'm not here to troll just because it's no longer attractive to me doesn't mean others don't enjoy it, I was only posting my opinion on the place no need to take it to heart!

If you'd relocated your life to central BKK and I slammed it because I didnt like what I saw on lower Suk, how would you react ?

I wished more would stay away then maybe the traffic jams would ease up.

It's amazing how many people come to this dump I must say.

Enjoy bkk

Most of the cars jamming up the roads every day are owned by Thais. They love to drive around here showing off their cars. Tourists don't usually drive around in cars. Some expats do, but usually they have the sense to stay out of the main areas at peak times. Sure, you could make the point that the Thais are here and rich due to the foreign money pouring in, but they're here to stay and they're the ones causing most of the traffic jams.

Thats right all this traffic is from the Thais mostly from Bangkok.

Sure its their country but the quality of life in Pattaya has really gone downhilll proportional to their increasing numbers here.

The traffic , the garbage , the teen gangs, the construction, additional cigarette smoking, the no go weekends and holidays now

But it sure does not seem to bother the Russians, the touring Asians, and of course the Thais.

All the decay everywhere is just SO depressing and life SO rough here in the cesspool that--hell, I'm just gonna have to hit the Hilton buffet today and then have a few cool ones with the ladies at an afternoon go-go. Sigh.

Maybe one day the place will interest me again you never know I really hope it does because I had so many good times here over the years. When I first came quite a few years ago I thought wow this is the place for me, I never thought I would be writing a post like this 10 years down the line. Sad :(

88 I feel the same way. I had always had fun. Also the culture is shifting in pattaya. There is a big increase in Russians. There have been numerous posts about rudeness. Also the land of smiles after numerous political unrest and massive graft is far from smiling for the majority of Thai people. I truly wish that local leaders would follow through on promises to improve the quality of life for the thai people and improve the infrastructure. It was also be nice if there where environmental improvements made to reduce toxic air quality and water.

In my 6 year of coming and going ( 3 years permanently) there has been a change in the Nationalities that now frequent and work in Pattaya. More Eastern European (russians) than before and the Integration of Western Culture with Eastern Europeans has proved some what difficult (especially between Nordic nations & Russians). Perhaps this is due to the language as most of them do not speak English. So from that angle the profile has changed. Also given that more Thais (from bangkok) moving in has also created more Cars and hence traffic jams. But still relatively a great place when compared with BKK even if the stays for me are getting shorter. Not to mention the strength of the Baht !.

Don't get me wrong I'm not saying Bangkok is in any way superior I just came for a change

I'm not out to bash the place as I stated I used to love it just as you guys do but IMO it's not the place it used to be even as little as three years ago it was twice the city it is now. Everyone's entitled to their own opinion but I know I share the same opinion as quite a lot of others.

Don't worry about the replies so far mate, most of them fit in the following profile

Ok, for the most part. Except for the suit and tie. Substitute a tank top, cutoffs below the knee and sandals with socks. Tank top has his beer brand. All else same.

Pattaya is definitely changing, after all it was only a fishing village 40 years ago, in the last 10 years its more or less gone from a town to a city and its not stopping, weather you like it more or less depends on what you are looking for

Check out the number plates and see where all those Thai's are from.

Also keep an eye on the eco cars and see who the drivers are, in many cases, a lovely looking lady who just talked her "darling" into buying her a car

Why not just come out and tell us where you think all those Thais are from? I would say most are from here with a big influx from other areas on weekends and public holidays. The roads are busy all year around, even during slow season.

If you can not read Thai, just say so. Its Bangkok number plates.

In case you want to double check, its the really long word under the numbersthumbsup.gif

Thankfully we all have a choice, come and stay if you like it, stay away if you don't.

I find the development of Pattaya mostly good, only things I don't like is the ever increasing traffic and why did they have to cut the old big trees on Beach Road that gave a nice shade when walking there?

Shopping have never been better than it is now.

The OP is off his rocker. With world class beaches, world class golf courses, and friendly Thai and Russian hospitality, what's not to like about the place? It's heaven on earth.

I guess we all have our prejudices - I wont go near Phuket but some people love the place. Its interesting that the TVers who live in Rayong keep a very low profile on this board - perhaps I'll take a couple of my favorite girls down there for the weekend and see what we can get up to ;)

(Now you're bragging about Thai reading skills?)

Walking/riding/driving around reading the odd number plate will tell you nothing, but anyway, I don't agree and I'm saying that the majority of the cars here are from here.

Yes, on weekends and public holidays there will be a huge influx of out of town number plates. Certainly not only from Bangkok either.

Probably because they are busy posting in the Eastern Thailand Forum no?

Are you kidding about beaches. They are very dirty and do not look at what may be floating in the water from the sewer plants and drains. Thailand government itself has documented how bad the water and air quality is using there official word "dangerous"

It really is frustrating when people are either pushing lies that can be easily disproved by anyone with eyes or a nose. Not to mention the very limited reports from the Thai government on the significant environmental issues.

Also all of the shopping and condos are lovely unless you look at all of the poor planning and really bad infrastructure around it. Nothing was done by the city regarding traffic studies or roads. They just add numerous new developments with many units with no thought to urban planning. That is clear by the current problems.

Yeah, and it's different anywhere else in the world? It's not bad for a town that was a fishing village in the 70's. Most modern cities were a mess at some time in the past if they're not still a mess now... and it took 100's of years to get it right if they ever did.

Be careful what you wish for. Good infrastructure costs money and someone has to pay for it. That's what council taxes and rates are for, but I bet all the property owners here are paying peanuts compared to back at home.

Some people enjoy the 3rd World feel and prices. The people who don't may as well catch the first plane back home.

I,m in Pattaya for the first time in 5 yrs and its 10 yrs since i was single and enjoyed the best of everything here...first impression is wow. Where did all this traffic come from, Soi Buhkeow has transformed, Hollywood moved etc.. The place is massive and getting around a nightmare, have to say the people are as friendly as ever..

Looking around the beer bars the girls are dire, but then i moved my play time to bkk and the univ scene a long time ago.

Not sure i,ll come back, i miss the old pier, the simpler layout where the taxis just went in one big circuit, getting around even to jomtien was a 10 min journey..now...its bedlam.

A new generation will no doubt have a great time.. Mine are just the memories, but great ones

Lol define civilized. Come on you can't be serious we all no where the money for taxes goes and does not go. We also all know how development happens in pattaya. So you are justifying the crime, the deplorable infrastructure, the water and air pollution do to 40 year growth? Rediculous
