Talking of a government in exile via the American Embassy.

Expecting the Americans will not come right out and say it is a coup!

Military saying reforms are necessary, confirms where the backing came from?

Not sure if this has been posted yet:

1) Constitution has been suspended, except the parts dealing with the monarchy.

2) Some PTP leaders talking about setting up a government in exile.

3) If you have to get the the airport, and can't find a way, contact the local Army troops and they will provide it for you

4) Current caretaker PM is seeking "shelter" in American Embassy.

All reported on Channel News Asia Live TV on internet

How can he set up a government in exile

when he was shown the door he was only a caretaker

This will do nothing more than add fuel to the fire and get the red shirt into a fighting mood

We can See Thaksin is not interested in the Thai people

only in pushing his power around

so what is to stop the Dems doing the same thing

Now is the USA ready to get involved if there is no threat to the caretaker PM life

Thailand is a very important allie to the USA, and with problems with Vietnam and China on the doorstep

Not a good time to stir up trouble

Taking CNN off the air is just plain silly. Even if there is nothing to hide, this will result in great suspicion and an apprehension of ulterior motives. Very foolish.

Farang media offline mean shooting is about to start.

Textbook procedure.

Speculation !!

Normal procedure for first day of coup in my experience.

Time to dust off the DVD player..

just love it when the thaksin lovers start putting down anyone trying to sort all the sh*t he caused out. If the army can get rid of the corruption and shins Thailand will be a much greater country for it. Now we may well see thaksin dragged back in chains to face all of his other criminal acts, the ptp dragged before the courts as well as the yellows and reds. If done right this will end all the sh*t

God you really are not the brightest.

If the army couldnt curb corruption in their previous 13 coups why would this one be different?

Thaskin lives in a different country over which the Thai army has no control. Unless you are suggessting some kind of Thai invasion of the UAE?

So sad people like yourself are just too dim to realise what this is really about

Sorry, don't get that point at all.

Since when has it been up to the army to curb corruption? That is not part of their job description. The army are currently leveling the playing fields as neither side can agree on any points.

When adults act like children they need to be controlled. And just to keep this viewpoint neutral, it may have started with Thaksin (the initial protests achieved their goal by dismissing the proposed amnesty bill) but Suthep in his arrogance has done an equal (?) amount of damage here by increasing demands at every juncture.

The curbing of corruption comes from the government (whatever colour) and the RTP. Don't hold your breath.................wink.png

Outstanding. The army are a vehicle for preventing corruption.

My lord. Where does anyone get the idea that the army aren't in it up to their eyeballs.

Good move. That is why he is a General.

He may have cost Thailand quite a bit in aid including

military aid.

By US law the USA must now suspend aid starting with military aid anytime

a country is taken by military coup

Only if the US calls it a coup.

You might recall a recent case when they chose not to.

Disney channel gone. Bambi is so subversive.

At least this is step forward after months of left and right. What ever it brings it must be better than we have seen loooong time. Not what we expect from democratic nation, but seem to be only way in this devided country which is looking for their destiny.

Thai PBS Broadcasting Live (in Thai language) on YouTube:

Interesting that they can broadcast.. Is this "legal"?

PBS is goverment controlled.

OK, but why would they take it down from the air then?

well he gave the kids time to sort themselves out and they did not.

so you're inferring that it's a good job the army is involved in politics? I doubt if there is a single stable democracy where the army is above the elected government in deciding how the country should be run.

Everywhere where the military takes an oath to uphold the laws of the land from enemies foreign and domestic.

They leave the Senate in place as the functioning legislature. Not very bright if they want genuine reform/reconciliation.

I have seen no report of that - only courts and independent agencies - i think you are misinformed.

"Niwattumrong is in the American Embassy"

"Talking of a government in exile via the American Embassy"

This could get ugly. Either Kristie, Obama, etc. will denounce the coup along predictable lines (we know what's best for democracy so do what we say, etc.) or they might actually get involved in trying to restore Shin-puppet rule and allow Thaksin robot Niwattumrong to hide in the embassy, which would be a very big mistake.

Suthep's folks were still sitting tight at 19pm according to Barrows tweet. Military will likely clear them today.
