Police arrest 11 working for online gambling group
The Sunday Nation

BANGKOK: -- Crime Suppression Division police have arrested seven men and four women in Sam Roi Yod district in Prachuap Khiri Khan for allegedly working for one of Thailand's major sources of online football betting and baccarat gambling.

Acting division commander Maj-General Noraboon Naenna said the move followed a previous police investigation into Atthapol Suanjaiyen, who was suspected

of running several lucrative gambling websites that are now blocked by authorities. However Atthapol's group had prepared many URLs, so they could open new sites to take bets within hours, he said.

The investigation found that the group moved computers and a bet-taking call centre to tambon Sam Roi Yod. Police got a court order to search a property and arrested the 11 suspects.

They also seized computers, 12 cell phones, 15 ATM cards, a large number of online betting forms and froze bank accounts. The 11 suspects have maintained their innocence.

As I said gambling has been around since the year dot.

The so called mafia have control of it now so by legalising it you take that away from them?

Thais gamble everyday and they love there football so illegal gambling is not going anywhere.

They should embrace it an reap the rewards and plough it back in the economy!

Gambling destroyed my marriage.

No personal rewards reaped there for myself or ex.

This is cosmetic. It looks good, makes sense, and is a red herring. Reform is desperately needed in education, immigration and forestry. None of those issues are being seriously addressed. Not a single one, They axed the stupid tablet scheme, which wouldhave been a great idea -- if they kept the tablets at the schools.

Amazing Thailand.

My ex gambled away a van, fish farm, tractor, household goods and now half a house , all in illegal casinos around Bangkok. She and her brother are addicted and once that happens there is no way to stop them.

All the Army has to do is ask any Bangkok taxi driver where are the casinos and he can give directions to probably more than 100. Thais seem to be easily addicted to gambling, maybe the Chinese influence, and inside the Casinos there are illegal money lenders so they can pawn their watch, phone, gold, motorbike, even Chanote to them.

At least by making Casinos legal it will slow down the on-site money lenders and give the Government some much needed revenue.

Legal Casinos will increase the number of foreign tourists, eg Macau that in just a few years overtook Las Vegas

This is a corruption from which both sides are raking in profits, Look forward to no action on this issue, Look forward to it. Did anyone notice the push for world cup gambling being illegal? That is because that gambling is farang, and no Thai gets a cut.

Duh, Neither yellow nor red, many are pissed they cannot get a piece.....both sides.

Amazing Thailand. Resume rants.

Yes gambling is an addiction. So maybe the Junta could also stop the sale of Alcohol and Tobacco and also prostitution as well... Oh and the state lottery and domino's and jackpot and hi-lo as well. Just because addictions exist doesn't mean you ban all forms of that addiction. Addiction is the sole domain of the addict. So we should stop selling beer because some become alcoholics? ridiculous statement. Then again perhaps you are one of those upstanding pillars of community that has never indulged in a drink or a cigarette or a lady of the night, or has never had a punt on the outcome of a football game.

Sure but makin them legal makes them visible to those not exposed to it. What you are saying makes no sense. Who cares the number of tourist increasing if its increasing the number of wives and brothers like yours who lose everything.

Lucrative is right!

Get with it Thailand you are surrounded by countries with legalised gambling and they are reaping the rewards!

Your own country men and women are crossing the borders to have a bet and you have over 20 million tourists a year as a market to aim at.

Instead of driving underground you should be embracing it and reaping the rewards.

Gambling is like that other profession it's been around forever and not going anywhere and Thais like a bet just like anyone else!

So you think its ok because the country reaps the rewards from it?

What about all the lives it destroys from people losing everything they own? The relationships ruined from the lies of someones gambling addiction? Gambling takes more than it gives back and usually only the big bosses reap anything. It also embraces more mafia control. Dont you think thais have enough problems than to add one more?

What about taking responsibility and only gambling what you can afford to lose ?

Absolute rubbish people cant be self responsible, get some help if your addicted, youll never stop a gambling addict parting with his money.. too many ways.

Gambling has been around forever like prostitution youll never stop it just like drugs, better to legalise the lot stop wasting resources and manpower on it and tax it and make revenue which also frees up resources to concentrate on other more serious crime....

Thais like a bet just like anyone else. There must be something wrong with me. No alcohol. No smoking. No gambling. No coffee.

Wait a minute. I love women. Even though I am married to a Thai beauty. I just cannot stop ogling pretty girls.

That is great. I must be normal after all. I was starting to get worried.

Yes, another 11 non descript gamblers arrested, so the cops are actually making enormous strides in stamping out the Thai world cup gambling.

Anyway, not to worry as the football finishes soon, and the cops will have arrested just 72 people out of a nation of 54 million? Absolutely astounding police work as always.

But think how much money the Thai transport companies make taking the fools to bet and how much hotels make from people staying there and how much the banks and loan sharks make when people lose all their money. A lot of people in Thailand will still make a lot of money from people gambling.....If people win then they bring the money back to Thailand ( unlikely we know ) and if they lose everything Thailand can deny all responsibility and doesn't have to waste tax payers money trying to help the idiots...

Get Mr Packer (or similar) in to set a few up.

Its happening anyway.

Reduce police corruption and their time spent on these call outs and time spent picking up the brown paper bag.

Increase in country revenue

High rollers come to town

Increase tourist dollar spent in country (not everyone wants to go to a casino, but the ones that do....)

As strange as it mignt sound, use a % to set up and run social programs. Increase likeability of Government.

The problem may be that the Thais want to own and operate these things themselves without first hand knowledge. Greed is good but may sink a project? Get someone in that runs these things and give them a licence for say 20 years. Thais can take over after that. Be like the Chinese pay for knowledge.

The casino over the boarder up North is rubbish; no competition, no sparkle, no atmosphere? Never use this one as a model.

Just my mental note to the Generalthumbsup.gif
