Thai police hunt killers of two Britons found beaten to death

Thai Junta chief calls into question the victims conduct? I'd like to know what his reasoning is for that statement. Maybe he means that two tourists from good backgrounds should not be enjoying themselves when on holiday. Maybe its time for them to bring in a curfew that explicitly bans tourists from being out after dark. At least they would still be alive in that scenario, but St. Ives would seem to be a better bet for a holiday. At least you could pretty much guarantee you'd be going home after your holiday and not to a morgue.

I myself and many others would have expected more of Prayuth. This statements conveys a tremendous amount of ignorance, and arrogance. He should think twice, before talking on his feet, if this is all he has got to offer.

"I have been following this matter very closely," Gen. Prayuth told reporters as he arrived at Government House this morning. "We also have to look into the behaviour of the other side."

Knowing I have

to be very careful what I say here I will just settle for speechless.

2 facts not mentioned in any reports.

The crime scene is a stone's throw from the islands police station. Come out the police station, turn left and walk straight down the road for about 50 meters and you arrive at the crime scene. Any noise, screaming, shouting would easily be heard at the police station, providing there was somebody there and the tv volume wasn't cranked up.

The police have been busy extorting tourists in recent days, likely leaving the station unattended. I know this because I was rudely stopped while riding a scooter and an imposing physical search was carried out by a group of 5 policemen on the 14th. Police on Koh Tao like to find small offences that they can use to blackmail tourists for large amounts of cash, such as visa issues, small amounts of prohibited substances. If anything changes as a result of this crime, I hope all Koh Tao police will be changed for real police.

People with such behavier, scooter - no helmet,

only a little bit of drugs,

only a little bit druncan and driving,

this are not tourists which we like here in thailand,

Police is correct to check and panish them !

And send them back and blacklist for ever !

Hope more police will show up in future and escort back

such elements to the airport !

The best thing that you could do is go back to which ever planet that you landed from, back in the real world all these things are very minor offences....

back in your country ? like seems to be a low-less country ?

driving druncan is a genlemans behavier ?

in my country you would loose propably your DL for some time !

and no one would talk about a ! minor offence !!

but you propably one of them which drive here without helmet and wo DL;

I also have expected he fly immediately to Koh tau and catch the guys;

I did not expect that you blame him on interpretations of what he not said !

Look at his talk in thai !! before you blame !!

Really, is it an acceptable thing in the British culture to be having sex outdoors in public places????? I am really curious??

Define a public place at four in the morning(night). I admit to having had sex in places that were romantic and not in view!

Yes in Britain!

I know about the fullmoonparty's on koh phangan since 20 years but i had never heard of hedonistic party's being held in Thailand.

So now all the European family's know their kids go to hedonistic party's in Thailand. I wonder how many are still allowed to go after this news.

Absolutely awful behaviour - my condolences to the family and relatives.

And shame on the Thai police for pointing the finger immediately on migrant workers, after first assuming it was a close friend of the deceased CCTV footage shows an Asian fleeing the scene.
Which ofcourse must be a Migrant worker.

Police on Koh Tao like to find small offences that they can use to blackmail tourists for large amounts of cash, such as visa issues, small amounts of prohibited substances.

crazy.gif Sounds like police doing policing. So many here LOVE to complain about police not doing their jobs but then complain when they do. FYI, paying authorities for crimes you commit is not blackmail but rather called a fine.

Paying cash directly to the officers in order to avoid arrest is the definition of blackmail and is what jaidam is referring to. This is very, very common in Thailand, not just with tourists.

Not if there is an offense, it would only be blackmail if the offense was entirely fabricated. The police may well blackmail people but as he said "small offenses"..."such as visa issues, small amounts of prohibited substances", I feel we can assume that this was what he actually did mean to say, rather than the police making things up.

This is the picture of them that has been released, is it me or does this not look like them?.....This looks like a Westerner and a Thai....look at the difference in body sizes and the colour of her hair?

I have to agree I don't think it looks like them. Different colour hair for a start and I may be mistaken but a dark skirt where in the graphic pictures that I don't want to re check it was light coloured. Edited by YoungBrit

You can be sure that in-between 24 hours we hear that these 3 non-thais are the killers. thai police has to show quick results now, it's a matter of business and national pride. How they get the confession out of these poor guys, you and me know how they do.....

Oh wait they let the Burmese workers go. The have not framed anyone.

I find these 2 statements strange.

The Britons, who arrived in Thailand on August 25, had been seen partying at a local bar just hours before their deaths,

More than 30 police officers from the Ko Pha-ngan Island Police Station raided a worker's bungalow near the crime scene earlier today, and detained three Myanmar workers, after witnesses revealed that the three suspects were drinking alcoholic drinks near the site during the time the murders took place.

Assuming there were more than 6 people in the area how likely is it that the only ones drinking alcoholic drinks were 3 Burmese workers. Maybe it's just the reporting or I'm not reading it correctly.

RIP to the 2 victims

Is that really sound police work, eliminating all Thais because they can't believe a Thai could do such a thing? I still can't get out of my mind the Russian stabbed 7 times in the chest and the police called a suicide. Karma has come to Thailand. It has arrived.

That would seem to be what is going on here.,,try to lay the blame on foreigners and even the victims, because this should not happen in Thailand.

It's pretty sad when saving face and the image of tourism becomes the primary concern in such an horrific murder case.

I really hope the victims's family aren't reading all this Thai media crap.

They are... I listen to BBC radio 2 and on every news break they are talking about it.... they mentioned 2 hours ago about the unlikeliness of any Myanmar labor being involved and also mentioned the ridiculous statement that Police were interrogating Myanmar labor folks because there is no way a Thai person could do something so atrocious... they are getting all the bits and pieces of rubbish being put out there by Thailand medias

It's International news. The world is watching and waiting. Karma rings true..

May they RIP and whoever did this be brought swiftly to justice

"Swift justice" - an oxymoron

Right now the lynch mobs, torches & pitchforks in hand, are out in full force.

Let's hope the "authorities" go slow & sure instead and get the damned thing right.

If the UK police fly out here and get involved there will be nooooo cover up....thumbsup.gif

UK Police will not get any further than the Thai police. The Thai police will not cover this up transam. They want their man badly. They will get a bloody good pat on the head if they solve this fast.

The idea that the UK police don't do cover ups is quite touching in it's naivety. When it comes to cover ups they are probably in a class of their own. Witness, 'Hillsborough, where scores of innocents were killed', Stephen Lawrence murder, historic child abuse etc etc.

Would the poster who mentioned police station not being far from the beach please PM me please, as we have many questions, maybe unwitting questions, as we don't know the culture here. We will fly to the island in 2 days, after a visit to the morgue tomorrow to make identification. Trying to be strong withing all our realms, but any information before we go to the island would be of help.

Thank you all

Wendy.

No mention has been made of finger prints on the hoe. I suppose it will be determined if in fact it was the murder weapon.A very sad ending for two young people enjoying a holiday in paradise. My heart goes out to their families.

Yes, fingerprints and/or DNA on the hoe?

I'm so sorry I could not get information from this site.

Kind regards to all, but I guess it's time to forget this as a viable place of any concern. We were told it could be a source, and yet it seems to be a circus.

Wendy.

Most posters here do care. Some might even have worthwhile thoughts and information, though for those close to the deceased it may be a difficult sift through the pages.
