HooHaa Posted September 18, 2014 Posted September 18, 2014 note he is not the PM in the article, rather the "junta leader". spade a spade indeed 1
mango66 Posted September 18, 2014 Posted September 18, 2014 UK should riase concerns about there youngsters behavier, when they abroad ! In UK they have the police in front of every pub, we dont want to have this situation here in Thailand as reason of brits !! That makes concern to us !! 1
ggold Posted September 18, 2014 Posted September 18, 2014 The Daily Mail website should permanently be block to safe guard all innocent Thais. Yeah !!! Exactly like from George Orwell.. Let's block all media which can have any critical opinion about LOS and Innocent Thais... "innocent" ??? I mean... seriously ??? Have you tried to open the daily mail website? it is actually blocked by the Thai authorities. The only way to access it is using a VPN 1
thejcb Posted September 18, 2014 Posted September 18, 2014 In the village and Roi-Et I feel at home, in fact no where else in the World do I feel more at peace with myself and the World. But tourist Thailand? No chance. You live in a village in Roi Et, you poor sod. I am so happy I am not there ! 1
borisloosebrain Posted September 18, 2014 Posted September 18, 2014 All reports so far indicate that the girl wasn't wearing a bikini; she was clothed. Perhaps the PM might also mention that some Thai men have a 'right to rape' mentality, from the poorest most uneducated to the idiots at Durex to the more powerful pooyais like the previous Tourism Minister the late Chumpol who also chose to blame the (Dutch) rape and bashing victim in Krabi.
Soutpeel Posted September 18, 2014 Posted September 18, 2014 In UK they have the police in front of every pub, we dont want to have this situation here in Thailand as reason of brits !! That makes concern to us !! really do they now ? I must have missed the boys in blue then standing outside the last time I was drinking in a pub in the UK... in conclusion stop talking Bollacks 1
Boo Posted September 18, 2014 Posted September 18, 2014 Some off topic attachments & a post removed. Please try to keep this thread clean & on topic & please do not try to derail with your dislike of other religions.
Eric Loh Posted September 18, 2014 Posted September 18, 2014 PM will do well if he retract his comment and apologies but he won't. He is a General and will not want to lose face. Will have to live with his gaffes for much longer.
Popular Post thejcb Posted September 18, 2014 Popular Post Posted September 18, 2014 The Daily Mail website should permanently be block to safe guard all innocent Thais. I am not sure if they have been paid by Thaksin or what, but lately have been publishing a lot of negative things about Thailand, and some info is not exactly true. For example, it say Prayuth came to be PM from coup. Not true. Prayuth was elected by >97% of the voters. Yesterday, Daily Mail has gone non-stop bad mouth Prayuth about his comment to alert women not to expose themselves too much. That is a very good fatherly advise. Nothing is wrong with that. What rubbish. There has been no General Election therefore the General was not voted in by the people.. He has that role because of the Coup, fact. How is a woman wearing a bikini on a beach exposing herself too much? Do you live on this planet, bikinis are worn safely all over the world on beaches all over the world but no one would ever be stupid enough to suggest that a beautiful woman wearing a bikini on the beach was asking to be raped and murdered,, at least not until now. It is a stupid and insensitive comment that the poor, grieving family now have to read and it came from the PM of Thailand. Bikinis are sold all over Thailand, what does he want to do next, ban bikini sales to women who are beautiful? Who makes the judgement if they are ugly enough not to be at risk? Do you not see how totally stupid this comment was? This does absolutely no good for the reputation of Thailand when the "leader of the country" is making remarks like this in the wake of a brutal murder. I can assure you that people across the world will be reading his comments in disbelief exactly as I am. Well put! Thank you! Very poorly put. I don't like this. In Thailand the culture is NOT to wear revealing clothes. Anywhere else in the world ?? Middle East for example !! Everyone always going on about living to the countries rules, but it seems, only when it suits them ! Why does anyone want to wear a bikini in a stinking hot country ? Why do it anyway ? Abide by Thailand's cultures and don't do it ! 3
wilcopops Posted September 18, 2014 Posted September 18, 2014 Well it is consistent with Lonely Planet's advice, dress conservatively so as not to offend the locals. Only goes one way of course; western countries are expected to be tolerant of visitor's cultural differences. I've asked this before do you consider it advice or is it simply trying to shift some of the blame? 1
rtco Posted September 18, 2014 Posted September 18, 2014 I just wonder when they will come up with the "suicide" angle ... LOL
jimbeam1 Posted September 18, 2014 Posted September 18, 2014 Deputy govt spokesman says PM sorry over 'bikini quote' BANGKOK: -- Deputy government Spokesman Col Sansern Kaewkamnerd said Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha was sorry after learning that his comment over the murder of British tourists caused a furore. Sansern said Prayuth was also sorry that part of his statement was selectively played up without taking his intention into account. Sansern said Prayuth had good intention to protect tourists and wanted to see all sides cooperate to increase security for foreigners. -- The Nation 2014-09-18 Why can't he say it himself? Exactly +1 jb1
mango66 Posted September 18, 2014 Posted September 18, 2014 I would recommmand to Brits, spend your sea vacation in Saudi; you'll be on save side !! No Alcohol no drugs no sex, or are there any other reason why you come here ?
Pii Kate Posted September 18, 2014 Posted September 18, 2014 Thank you British authorities! So happy you have come forward and supported sanity. "We don't want any more crime", well duh! Like the rest of us do? The road to hell is paved with good intentions General.
lahgon29 Posted September 18, 2014 Posted September 18, 2014 slur post removed My post has been removed...Can you please advise me what a "slur post" is, so I don't get censored again?
Soutpeel Posted September 18, 2014 Posted September 18, 2014 In Thailand the culture is NOT to wear revealing clothes. Abide by Thailand's cultures and don't do it ! So when did Thailand's culture change oh mighty Ajarn ?.... upto the mid 1940's or there abouts, Thai ladies used to walk around all day with their "lunch buckets" hanging out for the world to see, if one refers to the basreliefs at Angkor Wat, bare breasted ladies everywhere as well 1
no deal Posted September 18, 2014 Posted September 18, 2014 good point! Maybe insensitive but he has a point. There is no bikinis or even swimming suits worn by locals at local beaches and only a few westernized thais wear them at tourist places and then much bigger than western bikinis. Unfortunately. The only thais you will see wearing western bikinis are pros looking for a custumer or already with one.Told this years ago by the wife saying girls in bikinis are putting themselves in danger. Most loso thai men have little respect for women and just see women as meat. The shorts under skirts are worn for a reason.
Mr Tom Posted September 18, 2014 Posted September 18, 2014 I actually think the PM's comments may say more about what he thinks about some Thai men than it does about foreign female tourists wearing bikinis. Is he saying that Thai men can't be trusted around young attractive western girls in bikinis and therefore, these girls are not safe wearing such attire on the beach in Thailand? That was the first comment out of my Thai old lady. "The news said she was naked on the beach. Why do farang do that? Don't they know a man might see her and take her"? I've seen a lot of other comments across the news in Thai basically stating "what did you expect would happen farang"? 1
arthurwait Posted September 18, 2014 Posted September 18, 2014 So basically if a Thai lady is walking around wearing skimpy shorts and a revealing top is it fair game to sexually assault her? Absolute rubbish. What worries me most is not the comments from the PM, but the fact that every day Thai's actually think that's right and can't see this situation for what it is. Are they incapable of being assess the situation or just thick? No it doesn't mean that at all, but it doesn't change the way some very low educated people with their levels of sexual equality in the dark ages from thinking like that. Especially after a few laos kaos or 30. It's about keeping yourself safe.
webfact Posted September 18, 2014 Author Posted September 18, 2014 Thai PM 'sorry' for bikini remarks after Brit murder Full story: http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/761499-thai-pm-sorry-for-bikini-remarks-after-brit-murder/
seajae Posted September 18, 2014 Posted September 18, 2014 There is only one reason why foreign tourists in bikinis are tolerated on Thai beaches, and that is because of the $$$ earned from these tourists. Most Thai people are conservative in outlook and frown upon the wearing of such clothing. Remember that most Thais are Buddhist, with a large Muslim minority (majority in the south). Don't think for one minute that you would be welcome on the beaches of Thailand in your bikini if it were not for your money. you mean the buddhist conservatives that drink alcohol all the time, rape children/school girls/women, kill each other over loss of face. etc, yes I can see how such conservative buddhists would be outraged at bikinis 1
aaechiangmai Posted September 18, 2014 Posted September 18, 2014 All youngsters before they come to Thailand should be made aware of the Thai code of conduct and dress. Some might say that the way young European girls dress in public places could be seen to be an open 'invitation'. Cover up not only when visiting Temples here. Thailand is not Sweden or Ibiza. Thailand is very safe compared to 99% of the rest of the world, so don't hesitate to come here.

Its sexism against men in that it implies they can't control themselves. Its sexism against men in that it implies they can't control themselves. Does this not applie to some Thai men (read the news about shooting e.g.)
Popular Post Carrerakiss Posted September 18, 2014 Popular Post Posted September 18, 2014 Thailand can't have its cake and eat it too. The PM has previously stated that he wants to revive the tourist industry to previous standards. Many, if not most, foreign tourists like to go to the beach and many, if not most, female beach goers wear a bikini at some time or other. They are not going "everywhere", they are going to the beach. If you don't want foreign bikini clad women on your beaches, then say so and accept the tourist arrival consequences. There are Muslim countries who do just that and fine, that's what they want, no problem. Is it what Thailand wants? Tourists in bikinis, or reduced arrivals. Which is it to be? And whilst posting, the Brits should be raising concerns that the only possible suspects being examined by the police are foreigners. In fact, to go by what one policeman said, Thai nationals are ruled out of suspicion. Now THAT is something to be concerned about. 3

Popular Post khunpa Posted September 18, 2014 Popular Post Posted September 18, 2014 He does have a valid point. Topless sunbathing and even nude bathing is frowned upon in Thailand but people still do it. The number of women and men walking around Tesco and other shops in bikinis and thongs is ridiculous. Would they do it in their own country? No. Of course because a woman is walking around is no excuse to rape her but there are crazy people out there and tourists should dress appropriately. Sorry, but have you ever seen when the Thai "working girls" turn up at the beach with the 40 year older Farang boyfriends and noticed how some of them dress and act at the beach? Thai girls actually also wear bikinis... or have you not noticed that? It is so easy to point at the farangs. But where in the world will you e.g. find more ladyboys than here and more women wearing high heels and sexy outfits. Just take a look around. Thailand can only blame themselves when it comes to the way Farangs dress and act here. Simply because their traditional values have disappeared with their greed for fast and easy money, which comes through prostitution and night life. Thailand is known all over the world for its beaches and SEX... and Thais put that sticker on themselves. 3
slygeeza Posted September 18, 2014 Posted September 18, 2014 norms of western culture do not fit with norms of asian culture. think about that. could save your life or one of your close loved ones lifes one day! maybe someone had better tell that to all the Chinese girls I see wondering around in bikinis 1
