as an aside it is no different in France and Spain even today where the "MAYOR"(headman) of the village and town holds sway, when i had my place in Spain, corrupt mayors giving (illegal) rights to builders to build on "rustic"/ green belt land, and now innocent buyers seing thier lovely properties bulldozed to the ground because of corruption. so it is not only Thais ok.

Has anyone seen interview on Thai PBS just now? Looked very much like the "boss" suggesting the Sean was seen on the night of the murder covered in blood ?

Might of got the translation wrong but there could be another twist.

Yes, he made that claim in the Thai press yesterday too after being taken in for questioning by the police. He said a Thai girl from a Spa on the island had seen blood on Sean.

It is high time that fair warnings are issued about mafia hotspots so we can avoid them

Thailand has many great places so why go to the mafia ganglands - Samui, Koh Tao, Pattaya, and Phuket

Go elsewhere like Koh Kut, Hua Hin, CM and thousands of other great places

Why (drugs?) do so many tourists ignore the hundreds of wonderful towns and go to the tourist traps of smiling mafias

normally i might be pessimist but I feel there is going to be a big arrest and parade and official recreation this time

the smell of rare justice is in the air tonight

The village headman knows more and knows where his brother is - can someone supply the headmans name and his brothers name and picture so that he does not escape

Not that I disagree with you, but most people are blissfully unaware, and believe it or not Phuket is still highly regarded as an attractive tourist destination to those outside of Thailand or those that have never been before. It's not like Thailand Tourism would itself come out and suggest that there are problems with going to certain areas, that would be like shooting themselves in the foot, not that they don't do it in many other ways but that's besides the point.

Why hasn't this girl come forward ?

My guess is that he is involved and making this story up to shift the blame away from himself and his brothers sons who fled to Bkk.

What he speaks means nothing. Only take the facts and draw your conclusion based on them.

HEY HEY Whats that got to do with the scum we are discusing here? This has nothing to do with green belt, builders or buyers or Spain ..This is to do with the murder Of two young people in a corrupt Thailand .

Thailand is going slowly down the pan, by the minute, deeper and deeper, and very soon it will be unable to return.

Now they must invlolve the army, and kick some arse,

I did wonder why the army was not sent in to sort it. This case is huge for reassurance of future visitors and the actions of the law. Get the army in NOW, the army of late has solved many cases, cos folk do not fear talking to them as they do with local law.

1 of 2 things will happen next. This will either be pinned on someone who had nothing to do with it or they will have actually caught the guilty folks.

Wow !! Your powers of Deduction are totally amazing....perhaps a consutancy job in the future with the Royal Thai Police ??

Over the years the negative and cynical comments have become almost the norm on TV, hopefully this very welcome news will show that the new regime is making one more important and significant change to how the services operate in Thailand.

If the suspects do turn out to be responsible for this disgusting crime, and if they do turn out to be "connected" then this may well be a watershed moment for us all. These kind of unspeakable crimes are perpetrated in different countries every day, it is not a singularly Thai problem, but if the authorities will now pursue those responsible without fear or favor then ultimately Thailand will become a safer place.

Nothing will lessen the pain for those left behind, but hopefully if those genuinely responsible are held to account there may be some morsel of comfort for the family and friends of the deceased.

This would appear to be very good news.

And how many times did you use 'if' and 'may', followed by 'would'?

Cynical and pessimistic in one short sentence! You should fit in perfectly on TV...:)

Well, even though these terrible crimes shook the world, I personally will travel back to Ko Tao because I fell in love with this Paradise island. Will I be afraid for my safety? Probably to interested in what ocean life I see. I am being honest. I have followed what has happened from the beggining,, but that island is still my paradise.

+1

As I know Koh Tao, those lost will never be forgotten, but rather their spirits will join in the fun and their lives celebrated by their likeminded travelers.

Wow! What an intrepid traveller you are Leila.

You should write a book about your adventures.

Leila is out of her tiny mind. Sitting on the beach smoking a huge bong watching the fairy's dance in the sunlight, reality is a long way away for you isn't it.

Looks like a few of us may eat humble pie (like me)

looks like the police may have found the correct murderers / not stitched anybody up etc

For that i apologise for doubting them and hope this is the future now

Have I spoke too soon?

Theres only one way to sort this now and that is to get a police force in who is trustworthy

Scotland Yard anybody?

I hope that they are waiting for DNA results from those who have been in the press the last couple of days, and that they are being watched 24/7.

Do I believe it?

Surely a case with such global attention samples could not be tampered with......

Oh I forgot where I am...... Sick of this circus.

Cross contamination allegations are the best defense against DNA. Of course the guy's DNA will be at the crime scene - he is seen in video and photos standing next to one of the bodies with the police! The police let him contaminate the crime scene - now any lawyer worth his salt will argue that his DNA is of course at the crime scene, since he's standing there barefoot, and that the cops cross contaminated by touching one thing then another, moving dna about to the extent that no sample is unadulterated.

Cross contamination ? The DNA they are testing against will be from semen found inside the victim.

Yes, to convict the rapists. But if the owner of In Touch was involved in the murder but not the rape, any of his DNA on the crime-scene in the form of hair, saliva etc. will be dismissed as he was walking on the crime-scene the next day so all any DNA found came from that...

And on a cosmic scale we are all specs of dust so why worry about something trivial as a double rape-murder?

He is the brother of a village headman in Koh Tao.

He also said another suspect is also a son of that village headman. But he has already to Bangkok.

Wow...impressed !!! Not what I was expecting at all

Really?

This is exactly what I suspected.

Koh Tao is a lawless place where influential people can pretty much do as they please with impunity, and have done for a long time.

If the police had not focussed only on foreigners and Burmese fisherman because they said that there was no way a Thai could be responsible, they may have solved this a week go.

Local people must have spoken up, and if these guys did in fact do it, I am glad the police caught them...although one wonders without the glare of the International media, would they have solved it...before the next "crime du jour" captured everyones attention.

Next stage is the punishment as the world watches...death penalty reduced to life in prison for the confession?

The surprise is the arrests, not who did it.

The police probably did knew who did it days ago have been buying time by throwing up scapegoats and other smoke and mirrors in the hope of finding a way out for the son and brother of the influential figure.

Finally someone even more influential realised the damage this was doing to Thailand (thanks to international media) and said 'enough is enough'.

Totally agree.

And the perpetrators may be the first in Thai history not to get away with it on account of their connections.

But will they receive a penalty that fits their crime? That's the next issue to watch carefully.

Looks like we've been duped. No arrests were made. Shame on you thaivisa.com for this false report. From now on any story I read here I will take with a pinch of salt.

Obviously your comprehension skills are a little lacking...

The title does not state that an arrest has been made - it very clearly quotes the police as saying they are ready to make an arrest. Whether they have, or not is irrelevant to the title.

This is a meaningful contribution to what should be a topical discussion?

Edit: Each topic has a timestamp when it is started - in this case "Started by webfact, Yesterday, 13:51". At this time the report was 100% correct and therefor still correct.

Too many people here with verbal diarrhea, taking cheap shots at everyone and everything. Contribute something meaningful, this is not Facebook, where adolescents like to impress their 'friends' with their 'wit' and 'expertise'.

Yes I obviously haven't worried at all. Nor do I feel with the families or generally give a crap that it could have been me who were beaten to death on that beach that night.

Yup and he will have photographic evidence to support his defence..
