Media, police forensic experts leave Koh Tao
The Nation

KOH TAO: -- FORENSIC POLICE yesterday pulled out of Koh Tao after completing their task collecting DNA samples from a large number of men, both Thai and migrant workers, in their hunt for the killers of two British citizens.

Their last task prior to leaving the island was teaching local police and non-forensic officers in the area how to improve crime scene inspections, including preserving crime scenes and correctly collecting DNA samples. Officers from the Crime Scene Investigation unit remain to try to solve the crime with local police.

A large number of foreign and Thai journalists have also left Koh Tao, as there has been little progress in the case. A police command post on the island remains, but has not seen much activity.

Koh Tao Murder: Thai Police 'Not Embarrassed' By UK Probe
By Khaosod English

x14137902921413791570l.jpg.pagespeed.ic.
Thai police chief Pol.Gen. Somyot Pumphanmuang on Koh Tao island, 3 October 2014.

BANGKOK — Thai authorities say they are ready to cooperate with the British police delegates who have been authorized to observe their controversial investigation into the murder of two British backpackers in southern Thailand last month.

The United Kingdom decided to dispatch their own police to Thailand after a number of UK and Burmese officials expressed concern over Thai police’s inquiry into the murder of David Miller, 24, and Hannah Witheridge, 23, whose bodies were found on a beach on Koh Tao island on 15 September.

Thai police have accused two Burmese workers of killing the Britons, though many human rights organisations believe the men are "scapegoats" who have been forced to confess by police. Thai police have adamantly denied the allegation.
