No evidence of human trafficking found in Trat's fishing industry

TRAT, 6 October 2014 (NNT)- The Department of Employment’s Trat Office has claimed there is no human trafficking activity in the fishing industry. It said migrant workers only spent a few days at sea before returning ashore.

According to the Department, there have been a growing number of human trafficking reports in the ASEAN fishing industry. Human rights violations usually occur on large fishing vessels that stay in the sea for months on end.

A center to combat human trafficking in Trat has been set up, the sub-committee of which consists of government officials, said the department, adding that it has found no evidence of human rights abuse among migrant workers.

Most of the fishing boats in Trat are small, and fishermen only leave the shore for a few days at a time before returning. These migrant workers get to spend more of their time on land than those on larger trawlers.

However, the fishing industry is currently facing an acute shortage of workers. Fishermen have been encouraged to take better care of their workers, so that they would want to stay longer on the job.

Yes. They float in with the tide, after being thrown overboard by the captain for only working 22 hours a day. Had one come up on my beach, across from Koh Chang.

500Baht paid to each of the investigators?

Same money paid to Koh Tao police to mull about immigrant workers?

Just being curious.............................

And we believe you!!post-218648-0-52815000-1412582754_thumb.

Figures and information provided by TAT?

Provided by a TRAT, pronounced with a lisp.

The whole story sounds abit fishy to me clap2.gif

They only checked the small boats that do the short run. They certainly did not check the larger long-haul boats.

Launching a new Airline next week.... Piggy Airways. Well that's just as plausible.

Of course no human trafficking. Only slavery, this is different.

The whole fishing industry in Trat employs tons of illegal immigrants - mostly Cambodians. Of course, as usual, Thai will blast the illegal workers; omitting that 100% of this illegal worforce is employed by THAI companies.

North Korea has more honest headlines

Such a statement would weeks ago seem silly.

However, sadly ...it seems correct now

We get to the point very quickly at TV... No one: whether it be Thai or Farang, have any confidence in the system.

the corrupt investigating the slavers...now we are getting somewhere - tier 4

migrant workers only spent a few days at sea, so there's no human trafficking.

An underage prostitute only spends minutes with a client, so there's no human trafficking.

Same same.

Thainess at its best!

Aren't you sure the trafficking was done by burmese.

Never ask Thais to investigate themselves

What a remarkably convenient finding. The gullible farangs will all believe this. End of story.

I don't know why they waste their time......everyone knows that the Thai fishing industry is squeaky clean........slave labour.....child labour.....trafficking....nah.......never happens here...!!

Nope.

"Most of the fishing boats in Trat are small, and fishermen only leave the shore for a few days at a time before returning. These migrant workers get to spend more of their time on land than those on larger trawlers."

Doesn't mean they weren't trafficked.

Why is it...that I believe a huge cover-up has taken place in the fishing industry...

We have probably all read of first person accounts of the interment and killings of migrant workers in the fishing industry...

Wonder who received the under the table money on this report?

Come on guys. Quit blastin TRAT. You all know how it works. A tip Trat is coming and all illegals go home early. A small envelope given. Its easy to show everything is kosher.

Seems like they are running a tight ship down there.
