Katipo
It's great to see a development of this quality and scale outside of the usual areas. It's exactly the sort of stimulus Thailand needs.
khunjamesjohnson
how did 130,000 spectators fit in when the facility has to be expendede to accommodate 100,000??? Didn't I read the place currently holds 50,000? The story said 130,000 spectators were present during the event I guess they could fit 130,000 into a 50,000 seat venue. I sometimes see 25 people in a pickup truck.

thaiguzzi
It makes malaysia circuit looks like child's play. Soon f1 will dump kl and make mahathair looks like an idiot. F1 will have to come in all 4 fours begging to use newin's circuit instead. Still here? Jesus H. Christ. Do you ever stop waffling. Thailand's main problem is people like you. Still, because this great circuit is in Isaan, home of " stupid buffalo people" (your quote), we should expect (hopefully) your ilk to never attend...

Soon f1 will dump kl and make mahathair looks like an idiot. F1 will have to come in all 4 fours begging to use newin's circuit instead. Do not get too carried away. Before F1 will consider using a track there have to be first class medical facilities available. I doubt very much if there are such facilities available near this track or anywhere in Thailand, for that matter. There is an excellent track up to F1 standards in Shenzhen but it was turned down for F1 because of the lack of suitable medical facilities close by. Popular Post Dutchbike
Some typical TV negative comments, I remember when the news came out mr Newin was building a track in Buriram many people made jokes about it or thought it was a big scam, well he pulled it off and it looks great, build to international standards. From what I know, not intended to get F1 ( only F1 testing) but World Superbikes and MotoGP well into reach. Great for Buriram Great for Thailand. For the Super GT they builded temporary stands, so the spectator numbers are correct. from this: to this in about 1,5 year is what I call quite an archievement!
finnomick
This circuit was supposed to be built between Bangkok and Chonburi alongside the 7 Motorway until Newin stuck his oar in and got it built in the ass end of beyond. Who is going to drive 4.5 hrs to race in Buriram? It's the regular trackday guys that race every week who keep places like this going. Another real live white elephant. Sour grapes methinks.....not everything has to be near the metropolis

roasty
Too bad it's only good enough for GT racing and not F1. Really - FIA International Sporting Code article 7 (was article 6 on previous releases) and appendix 'O' has Grade 1 tracks suitable for F1 races. You can race GT series on a grade 3 track. Bluetongue
Fark there's some whinger's on here, motorcycle racing fans ride from North Queensland and Perth to Phillip Island every year, I've done it, the Thais are mainly car racing fans I think but they will make the trek, there will undoubtedly be hotel and other infrastructure going in for those who need it. The point really is it's halfway to a really good story, fark off you baggers

bongoz
I would like to see the condition of the track in a year or two when some maintenance and upkeep is due. not needed- made in Thailand, last forever! *** Breaking News *** Chang International raceway tarmac showing signs unstable road base and large cracks a leading Thai road engineer has claimed. He stated that the likely cause of this was vehicles driving around the track to fast and too many times within a specified time. The whole surface will have to be replaced including the road base, it is expected that all works will be completed within 5 years and cost 1 billion Baht per kilometer. The Thai government will pay for the new surface and handle the tender and construction processes. Another prominent building engineer has claimed that the main stadium has become unstable due to massive overloading during the venues inaugural event. The stadium was designed to hold 50 000 people and it has been reported that in excess of 130 000 were admitted during the Japanese Super GT event. The stadium will have to be demolished and rebuilt. But Thai Government sources have stated "it is unlikely that the stadium will be rebuilt, as the race track surface also needs more work which we will not be involved with". The TAT press release: New Chang International raceway a huge success. Over 300 000 visitors attended the first event all everyone was happy. There are new events planned for the raceway everyday for the next 7 years, including the eF1 format, 2018 Winter Olympic bobsleigh and figure skating events, 2015 International Swimming meet, 2015 NASCAR round 1 race and the launch of the new Pluto Intergalactic Space Station (PISS). Entry into the Chang International raceway is 100% free upon remitting your ticket at the entrance gate and all tourists are encouraged to attend, also VAT refunds are eligible on all tickets purchased to attend the venue* Subject to eligibility and Thai regulations deemed appropriate at the time of applying for VAT refunds. Tourists must submit the original Chang International ticket when claiming a VAT refund. Chang International raceway tickets are also eligible for substantial discounts at any King Power outlet. For example you can purchase two bottles of Jim Beam 1L for 2300 Baht discount from 2350 Baht. Or your can purchase one bottle of Jim Beam 1.5L for 2000 Baht (normal price and no other discounts available).

Eric Loh
Something tell me that Newin next project may be a casino. With tourist numbers failing, wouldn't be too hard to convince the authority to grant him a license. He is that sort of man who likes the fast lane type project and a casino will fit nicely in his vision.
