Kerryd
haHAHA - time to dig out the hockey gear and snowshoes ! Gonna set up a rink on one of the local rice paddies ! Of course it's not really winter until it hits -20 and there's at least 3 feet (1 meter) of snow on the ground. Anything less than that is just Autumn ! Why I remember back in "the day" when we'd have to walk 20 miles to school barefoot (uphill both ways), through 8 feet of snow while fending off packs of ravenous wolves ! Little wonder you'd start a school year with 8 siblings and be lucky if you still had 3 when the year ended ! (It is kind of funny to see the locals wearing sweaters and toques when the temperatures get down to a frigid 20-22 degrees at night ! Friend of mine was trying to explain how cold it gets in Chiang Mai in December. He had me thinking it was down to the freezing mark with frost on the ground ! Turns out it was around 16 degrees in the morning and it was dew, not frost, on the ground ! Dang, I almost put on a light jacket, but settled for a long-sleeved t-shirt instead.)

chrisinth
Winter In Thailand eh. It still makes me smile when I tell people from home that my air conditioner is set to the equivalent temperature experienced for the one day in the middle of their summer for the 20 minutes its not raining.

callcharlie2001
How does the Meterological Dept make this determination? In Southwest USA, the Monsoon period used to end when the dew point fell below 55°F for 3 days in a row. Sounds like it might be similar. Note: US Govt recently changed it to fixed dates on the calendar, regardless of dew points.

Fallangpakwan
Late on Xmas eve 1992 there was a hell of a storm hit Pattaya and threw about 10 or so of those big wooden tour boats up on Beach Rd, the next day until about midday you could see your own breath it was that cold.I was looking around for warm clothes and some kind of a heater; no such thing back then.
