Farang bashed on Karon beach last night.

Featured Replies

Just read in a Thai paper about a 30-40 year foreigner of "European appearance" who was severely bashed on Karon Beach last night. Some joggers found him this morning and he is a critical condition in a Phuket hospital. A motorbike with Malaysian plates was found nearby and the police suspect it's his. He had no ID on him.....wallet gone.

Police said they want to sort this thing out quickly as it could have a negative effect on the "tourism atmosphere".

Nothing about it in the English language papers or this forum.

PW got this story running already and his name..

It is mentioned on Phuket Wan, with more information.

I feel for his wife, if they are on Vacation, I hope they have other members of the family with them, as she will need support to get her through this.

Hope he makes a swift recovery..

I find it quite surprising the lack of Phuket media coverage, other than the PhuketWan which we cannot quote here.

why can't it be quoted on Thai Visa ? ( if it's in thai ..google the translation to english )

post a link to the story .... or send it over to the BBC .....

Forum rule 26) The Bangkok Post and Phuketwan do not allow quotes from their news articles or other material to appear on Thaivisa.com. Neither do they allow links to their publications. Posts from members containing quotes from or links to Bangkok Post or Phuketwan publications will be deleted from the forum.

And your entire quote of this story on PW has been removed.

Latest news is that he was mucking about on his bike at 5:30am around Karon Circle.

Maybe he met a local bike gang - possibly of unknown gender - who took a dislike to him.

The man has been identified as an American named Jonathan Mark Lemley, aged 28. Apparently he was doing wheelies and doughnuts on his bike around the Karon Circle. The noisy rukus apparently disturbed some as yet unidentified people. Said "hoodlums" laid on a severe beating and he is currently in a coma in Vachira Phuket Hospital's icu..

Thank you Lex.

Coma?

Thai 'vigilante' Justice then?

Was the offense that he was waking residents up or was it seen as an invasion of turf (taunting) by the local yaba-fueled "hoodlums"?

Anyone know if he has family and friends with him down there to liaison for his parents back in the States?

I read somewhere his wife was here in Phuket too ???

Hopefully she will be getting some support too..

I'm curious how the Malaysian motorbike comes into this.

Did he ride it to Phuket for some wheelies?

So many holes in this story.

AT least one less tourist making a fool of themselves and disturbing people in the early morning hours. Some people actually have to wake and up and work in the morning.

agree with you,we have a narrow rd.about 100mtrs.away,for 2yrs.peace and quiet after they [ob-or-tor] put in speed ramps, there had been a good few accidents on this stretch previously so speed ramps done the trick.

till someone one night racing on his bike came off,so the ramps were dug up so these idiots can race their bikes, the noise is horrendous.those people that have get up for work might be the same ones that have a dozen barking dogs so some of them i dont have any sympathy for.but for a tourist to be racing at 5.30am.well toooooooooo much singha oh ?.

Meatboy, what does that have to do with this incident? The details of this incident are sketchy at best so you are making some very big leaps to compare this with your own neighborhood.

Besides, the guy got beaten to a bloody pulp and left for dead on a beach and is now in a coma.

Atleast that is the report we are currently discussing.

So you think thats a reasonable punishment?

As I asked previously, is this more a case of the Thai yaba-fueled "gang" beatdown or was it actually the result of people being woken up?

I tend to think the first since I have not yet met a Thai who is the least concerned by loud noises at night--whether it be from dogs or muffler-less motorbikes.

Cheers

Hey, I am placing you on ignore.

Thats the first post I read of yours and it supports the gang beating of an American to the point that he was left for dead on a beach and is now in a coma.

If this is indicative of your contributions, a pre-emptive ignore will save me alot of wasted time.

Its nothing personal.

I will refrain from comment until the facts are through.

Rythm,

Refresh my aging memory but when have we ever had all the facts to anything here in LOS?

;-)

Cheers

I'd hate to think of all the silly and stupid things I did when I was younger. But no reason for a beating like this. I hope they catch the culprits and put them in jail.

sorry CC i was going on lex t.report,it seems he knows quite a bit of what went on and his name.i do agree to beat a man that bad for causing a rumpus.i wouldnt call them hoodlums, cowards more like.

just hope he has insurance.

Apparently drugs are involved.

It's never about wanting justice to be served or to create a better society, It all about image and tourist money. I suspect the General will soon command that no negative news stories can be reported in any form that shows the world just how dangerous Thailand really is.

An 18 yo fisherman turned himself in, admitting to the bashing. He has already done a re-enactment on the beach.

He claims self defence, was only trying to help the drugged up falang who was trying to ride into the ocean. The falang thought he was being robbed and attacked the 18yo first.

Drugs were found on the American and he will face charges.
