Members of a bomb squad unit inspect the scene after a roadside bomb blast, triggered by suspected separatist militants, that left a village defence volunteer with leg injuries, in Narathiwat

YALA: -- Two women were shot dead in Yala's Betong district yesterday morning, while a female teacher was also fatally shot in Pattani's Khok Pho district. A bomb in Narathiwat's Rueso district also injured a defence volunteer.

In Yala's Betong district, Sirirat Saechan, 35, was shot dead at 10.30am while her friend Salinee Saethong, 55, died on the way to hospital after two men on a motorbike chased and open fire at them while they were riding a motorcycle on Highway 410. Police were investigating if the killings stemmed from a personal conflict or the ongoing unrest.

Meanwhile, Ban Kuan Taen Schoolteacher Isara Chairitchok was shot at 12.30pm at her house's gasoline pump shop in Khok Pho, as two men on a motorbike pretended to be customers and shot her twice in the head and twice in the back.

Khok Pho Hospital later sent Isara to the better-equipped Pattani Hospital but they were unable to save her. Her death made Isara the 179th teacher to be killed in the region over the past decade. Police suspect the attack was retaliation for the killing on Friday of two alleged insurgent leaders in Nong Chik district by the authorities.

Meanwhile, Internal Security Operations Command Region 4 Forward Command spokesman Colonel Pramote Phromin said two guns plus ammunition were seized in the operation on Friday at Nong Chik's Ban Khok Node in which two suspected insurgents were killed.

Suspects Russadi Baerohsamae, 33, and Abdullohman Jehteh, 31, were wanted for 11 and 45 national security cases respectively, he said. Pramote said that out of the five others who surrendered during the operation, two were found to have nothing to do with violence, so they were released.

In Narathiwat's Rusoh district, defence volunteer Doloh Waesu was injured at 8.40am by a bomb on Suan Pithan Road. He was patrolling the area with five others when they spotted a bomb under a vandalised roadside sign, the patrol team leader Ban Bluka village headman Royalee Musor said. As they walked to closer look at the item, Doloh tripped on a wire linked to a hidden bomb, which resulted in him getting leg injuries.

Terribly sad, cruel and destructive for the local communities with both Muslim and Buddhist teachers at government schools being murdered. It has previously been reported the 'old guard' of the militant movements have condemned these murders, but are ignored by the younger generation of the armed groups, the Juwae.

again we see these brave terrorists killing unarmed women, what heroes they must be. Mind you this is after the thai authorities released 2 suspected terrorists they caught at the time of the shoot out. How in the hell can they stop this when they keep releasing all the suspects they catch, the thought of a little financial bonus for letting them go totally screws with their common sense. Its way past time the thais simply started killing all these terrorists, if they realize they will be killed they will have second thoughts because they are basically all cowards shooting at people that dont shoot back, especially women and kids.

How do you know its Muslims, do you have any proof or are you connected to them. Do judge people when you don,t have any solid proof who's doing the killing

Round up every Muslim in that area...take away their guns and knives and explosive materials...if they are found to be linked to terrorist organizations...take them to the Thai fishing boat captains and instruct them to use their body parts for chum...

I'm no fan of the junta, but I cannot condone killing unarmed civilians. Especally those going about their own business at home. It's a tough one, but I would give one more chance for talks to work and then go full John Wayne on them.

Chaos, bedlam and ineptitude reign supreme in this forgotten section of Thailand where anarchy(terrorism) and the right to do what ever the hell you want including murdering women prevails regardless of the numbers of military and police personnel who sit around and scratch their arse.

I wish the international media would pick up on this issue that there is and has been a total breakdown in civil order for decades and the authorities do next to nothing to stop the carnage and killings.

Thousands have been killed and maimed and whole areas terrorized, government personnel including teachers issued with side arms along with the distribution of military weapons to Joe public for self defense. Grow a pair and take control of your own country.

Lets be honest here, the ARMY packed them into trucks and let them die etc ... lets just say that again... the ARMY were responsible for those deaths regardless of what gov was in at the time, Tak Bai was awful and should never have happened, what should have followed was court martial for the officers and military involved should have been jailed but naaaa.

The army and police have have been terrorising certain sections of the southern population for an awful long time and continue to do so, its far from the shins doing this. No one makes the army do something it dosnt wish apart from only one group which has serious influence over it

Its also largely forgotten who was a favourable and hugely popular supporter of hard lines taken in the early 2000s. Its not just a Shin to blame here.

Having said all that when its killing teachers, women and monks and civillians etc its just terrorism. If it were exclusively military, police or political targets then id call them insurgents...

This lot are in the main simply terrorists responding to having been subjected to terrorism carried out by the Thai military regularly and Thai governments on and off since the very beginning
