North Korea 'Disappointed' That U.S. Offered Only a Letter in Exchange for Prisoners

WASHINGTON: -- In an interview that aired on Sunday on CBS's Face The Nation, U.S. Director of National Intelligence James Clapper described his secret mission to North Korea last week to seek the release of two American prisoners as a reason for optimism—even if North Korean officials were "disappointed" that all he had to offer was a letter from President Obama.

S. Korean ministry under fire for sexist job interview guidelines

NESDB projects 1% GDP growth

BANGKOK, Nov 17 -- The Office of the National Economic and Social Development Board (NESDB) projects that the Thai economy will grow by 1 per cent this year and 3.5-4.5 per cent next year as the government is speeding up its investment, the global price of crude oil is declining, and Thai exports are recovering.

PHUKET: -- Residents of a village in Srisoonthorn have complained to local authorities about erosion that bit a large chunk out of the Baan Lipon-Baan Bangjo Rd, cutting off their direct route in and out of their village.

Two face manslaughter charge for death of Dane's Thai wife

UTHAI THANI: -- Police investigation into the November 1 fatal assault of the Thai wife of a Danish expat in the central province of Uthai Thani has apparently been fast-tracked after the Danish Embassy in Thailand stepped in to help a distraught Palle Jensen formally press charge against their alleged attackers.

Ubon Ratchathani farmers receive 1,000 baht subsidy from the government

UBON RATCHATHANI, 17 November 2014 (NNT) – Ubon Ratchathani farmers have received the 1,000 baht subsidy from the government.


Farmers in Don Mod Daeng District of Ubon Ratchathani province have been gradually receiving the 1,000 baht subsidy from the government through the provinces Bank for Agriculture and Agricultural Cooperatives (BAAC) amounting to over 128 million baht at the moment.

Ubon Ratchathani governor Serm Chainarong chaired the ceremony of handing out the assistance funding following the government’s policy to assist low-income farmers. The money has been handed to 1,000 farmers with 12,946 rai of land amounting to 12 million baht. Each farmer will receive 1,000 baht not exceeding 15 rai.

There have been 3,762 farmers in Don Mod Daeng District who passed the qualification process under the rice growers’ registration program. Meanwhile, the rest of the farmers will be receiving their subsidy no later than within this week.

Farmers have expressed their joy of receiving the government's subsidy and will use it as expenses for fertilizers and wages for hiring rice harvesters while what's left will be used for family expenses.

The BAAC has handed out subsidy to 10,330 farmers in Ubon Ratchathani out of the total 200,000 amounting up to 123 million baht so far.

6.2 magnitude quake rocks Myanmar

The Seismological Bureau today reported a 6.2 magnitude earthquake inside Myanmar at 11.34 am with the epicentre 581 kilometres Northwest of Thailand's Muang district of Mae Hong Son province.


But it said there was no report of damage and casualty available yet.

The quake had no impact on Thailand, it said.

BANGKOK: -- Thailand's economy grew at a lacklustre 0.6 percent in the third quarter, prompting authorities to again clip the full year growth forecast, in a blow to a junta which has vowed to kick-start the economy following their coup.

Appeals Court commutes prison terms for former yellow-shirt guards
