Survey: Sugar cane growers happiest of all types of farmers

BANGKOK, 9 January 2015 (NNT) – Sugar cane growers and farmers in the Northeast are the happiest groups of agriculturalists, according to a recent survey by the Bank for Agriculture and Agricultural Cooperatives (BAAC).

Based on the 4-point evaluation, sugar cane growers have been found to be the happiest, scoring 3.22 points in gross happiness. Ranking second and third are oil palm growers and chicken raisers who gained 3.19 and 3.17 points respectively.

The results were attributed to the continued rise in the prices of these agro-products. In the world market, the retail price of sugar increased by 5.6 percent in November last year and has a tendency to soar further. Prices of oil palm are also moving up due to the higher demand from consumers and the industrial sector. The growing demand for chicken meat during the festive season resulting from the limited supply has caused poultry to be more expensive.

On the regional level, northeastern farmers have proven to lead the most pleasant lives with 3.19 points, due to the fact that the Northeast is home to the largest proportion of sugar cane plantations. Farmers in the central region and the South have been the least happy with 3.04 points, since rice and rubber industries, which have an economic role in these respective regions, are now in trouble.

On average, Thai farmers have obtained 3.11 out of 4 points in gross happiness, which is still relatively high according to the BAAC. The results suggested that over 80 percent of the farmers were quite happy with their lives.

losts of info left out of this survey. average farm size, of those happy farmers vs those sucking hind teat/unhappy. goss happiness is a term which may need a little explanation, but then again ''gross'' has several definations.

then again how many farms raise crops other than those mentioned in the survey? it almost like asking ''do you want to die by hanging, or fireing squad? neither produces long lasting truma, if applied correctly by experts, but the experts who can solve the many ag problems seem in short supply, whereas the those destined for the gallows seem to be in a endless que.

Sugar Cane Farmers no longer sweet

Thai News 2018 : Sugar Cane growers demand price of sugar to be raised to 12 cents per pound

Reputedly after a Government survey in January 2015, sugar cane farmers were the happiest farmers in Thailand, eclipsing rubber, corn and rice farmers.

As a result, an estimated 8million rai of rice farms were replanted with sugar cane, causing a world wide oversupply and price drop as the crops matured.

In the meantime, rubber farmers are enjoying a boom in rubber price of 200 baht caused by fewer rubber producers in Thailand, and rice farmers are once again enjoying leading the world market with a price of around 12,000baht per ton. A surge in new Toyoto Vigo, large screen TV sets and iPhones sales are attributed to the success of farmers.

Meanwhile, a new 99 cent Breakfast Chain "99cent Breakfasts R Us" has been floated on the Thailand SET Index raising investment of 25billion baht.

Well, if the rice farmers have a couple of years of real bad luck, they too will be raising Cain.

Maybe they will not be "Able " to do that..! whistling.gif

As far as Cain the farmer was concerned, Abel, the shepherd wasn't able to save himself.coffee1.gif
