Yeah, that is what I guess I am feeling.  Creepy is a good description.  It just seems so out of place.  Strange.

But why go to a place in Thailand and buy a beer and wings with unfriendly girls and pay USA prices?

That's a point but represents a biased perspective. I've found the Hooters girls to be friendly once you have their attention. And moonseeker, who went there last Tuesday, did find them friendly--a post you've carefully ignored. :) Furthermore, girls can be awfully nice to look at even if they aren't friendly. I mean, for us straights. Personally I don't care if they're friendly or not. What's there to talk about really? Appearance-wise, now, tell us about a respectable resto in town who has better looking waitresses dressed more appealingly. Would that be, say, Pig & Whistle? ;)

But there are so many better choices to get a better value and more of a Thai experience, friendlier ladies, prices,  etc.  I bet the number of customers who live here like me are very very few.

I suspect if you could open the books and see all the expense that goes into the total product, you'd not find a high profit there. As we've all conceded, Hooters is (cough) different and the value lies in that difference for those who appreciate it. The obverse is those who don't appreciate it precisely because it's different. Now me I've lived in Thailand for many years and have had the full monty Thai experience including planting rice in a field, blah blah. I know what it is and don't need homogenized Thai every day. I'd also note that the food tastes different than other around town. Want a burger comparable? You're not going to save much by having it at Hippo's or Havana. Those places also don't depend on residents for their survival.

So though I'm not big fan of the place, I say it's welcome to have around as a change of pace and I'll probably go there just once in a while (as I couldn't make myself just eat their salads) if they don't drive me & friends out w/ loud headache-inducing music. :)

Ok , no problem.  After living here I have my list of priority places.  As far a meeting ladies the Gogo's are last on my list. Tourist attraction rip offs.  As far a bars Hooter's is last on my list.  But go enjoy and have a good time.

I'm wondering, are Hooter girls covering up their skimpy uniforms since they are in public for all to see as people walk past that restaurant? Considering that people are meant to dress conservatively and respectful now given the circumstances.

Maybe black t-shirts instead of white ones?

There's no reduction in skimpiness down Soi 6... but most of it tends to be 'tastefully conservative' black as well.

Based on your latest review, I'll bring a small group of friends there next week. I can reluctantly handle a Kiss level of service but not LOUD Walking St. go-go music, so if they refuse to turn that crap down, we're walking out immediately, as we should have last time. Oh, and I'll avoid the clam chowder. ;) I'll post of our experience.

I did go w/ friends last week and it was much improved as moonseeker said. Music was still a bit too loud but tolerable, and much easier to listen to.  Adding a few more waitresses made the service was much better, though it was about 80% of where it needs to be. Our server was just friendly enough, no complaints. I won't be beating a path there every week but I've ended my boycott for now. We'll see if they keep it up.

Went there yesterday with a few friends for drinks only, after having dinner in Naklua and seeing almost every single restaurant empty. We then headed down to the Beach & HOOTERS around 21.30 and it was about 3/4 filled and rather busy. They might have to open that 2nd. fl. soon. Keep going.  MS>

I may have to hit it again in a couple weeks. Well, it appears our doomsters, with their usual prescience, have once again proven themselves excellent inverse economic indicators. One of many:

been away for 2 months working, so knowing things change fast in Pattaya i called hooters to see if all was the same

spoke in Thai to a lady who answered

Happy hour, ribs, wings, beers etc until 6pm? same deal as three months ago?

yes says voice, all same same

ok see you later

so i drive through the hurricane that arrived late afternoon yesterday from Kao talo , park in royal garden , pass the new foodland (when did that happen)  walk to hooters in the now not so driving rain but still wet

so sit at my usual table with my family, met by my usual girl, order our usual drinks

drinks come , order same same as always, she knows what i mean and she says not happy hour now, not same before

really i say, i call 2 hours ago, they say same same, i show her call on my phone

she is embarrassed but i try to lighten the mood and say ok, whats the promotion now?

she says Friday special is fish and chips and a chang, ok i say how much?

she shows me on menu rather than say

its 699 baht!

i say really and thats a special item at a special price?

she does not answer

she says have new boss, everything change,

i can see that i say

she says have lady boss here as lady walks past , can talk with her?

so grabs her like  a drowning person clinging to a liferaft and brings her  to us, i talk, she listens, she clearly has no idea what i am banging on about, even in thai, ( i bet she is the one who answered the phone earlier) so she is little to no use and quickly gets new boss

she brings him over , i can tell straight away from his confrontational tone he is no stranger to argument

i ask him about the prices and whether he thinks 699 baht is a fair price for fish and chips that can be bought at a specialist retailer of fish and chips ;like jolly friar for 175 baht with a 45 baht chang

so a little over 200 baht there

he defends himself as best he can by saying a number of times''but this is Hooters!'' as though that a mere mention of the name will explain the prices as though Hooters is synonymous with price gouging

he says that all the promotions are drink related now not food related

i expect that would be seem normal and what he thinks is required for Pattaya punters from an Ozzie

he says he has not changed the prices since he came but i pointed out the ribs list price on the menu has increased from 1/2 rack at 499 baht to 599 baht and the full rack from 699 to 799 since i was last here

so someone increased them, although he says it was not him

i say you are like a Thai, you increase prices in low season to maintain profits from a smaller turnover

he is not nearly as amiable as his predecessor, he liked an argument as much as me, so it was best left before it came to fisticuffs

he was pretty dismissive and laize-faire as i say we won't be staying now or coming back again

i can find other places to spend the 3-4-5000 we usually do even in happy hour at Hooters

so we left, saddened that one of our favorite early start places has been ruined by the greed of a new manager

so we went to cherries,

guess what was on the menu?

all you can eat ribs for 350 baht and very nice too

spent about 2500 total to a place that deserved our money

Hooters , i am very sad to hear about your demise...........

Been like that for years in the US. There it's all about the how big the plate of wings you want and how many pitchers of beer you need to wash them down.

Judging by the throngs of inbound Asian tourists at the airport these past 2 or 3 trips, Hooters won't be going short on the one-time visitors anytime soon.

I wouldn't even turn my head to look.

I don't even step onto Beach Road. Or pass 2nd Road, for that matter, unless I have a mission in Central Festival. I might have been in a Hooters in Canada 10 or so years ago.

Funnily enough, I do exactly the same when walking on other side of the road where the jet ski's are on offer.

Not sure what your ranting on about. Paying for ambiance is nothing new.

Hooters has always been overpriced your paying to see hooters. Just like a Gogo bar, if the beers too expensive there drink at the 7-11. The manager was correct and they probably can afford to not care about your gripe.

as i do not drink, Jim the beer prices at hooters or 7/11 are unknown to me

i have no idea what the cost was before during happy hour or what it is now, so your assumptions are not valid

surprisingly i went primarily for the food and have done so many times

how many times have you been Jim? ever?

at 199 baht instead of 599 baht the ribs were great value at the time of previous pricing during happy hour

they are not great value now at 799 baht and neither are fish and chips at 699 baht whilst on promotion?

i cannot imagine what they are priced at when not on promotion

the ambiance such that it is was always a  bonus, great service from a great server and a good table for people watching

so thats my take on it Jim, you might only be interested in the beer and the girls but i went for something a bit more substantial

I have generally found the girls there to be unfriendly and stuck up.  At least in Bangkok several are prospective models.  Working the auto shows and such.  Don't find higher prices and bad attitudes my cup of tea.

This sounds about right...I was sure Hooters happy hour food deal was not going to last long....I bet there are lots of suckers who will pay 699 Baht for fish and chips plus tax and service charge....

Your actually paying 199 Baht for the fish and chips and 500 Baht to sit and Hooters and eat your meal....lol
