Wall tiles direct onto superblock walls

Just finishing construction of a new house and wondering if the white lightweight building blocks need rendering before applying wall tiles or can the tiles be fixed straight to the blocks with good quality mortar ?

cheers

As I remember it, the Q-con style bricks require a specific render. So I an unsure as to whether or not there is a mortar or tile adhesive that suits that application.

It has been seven years since the autoclaved aerated CPAC light weight blocks were tiled in my house in Buriram. I will look through some older photos and see if the kitchen or bathroom walls were rendered prior to Weber affixation being applied when ceramic wall tile was put on the bathroom walls and kitchen walls. I am going on Friday to the first day of the Buriram Home Expo and I have been told that the English speaking technical staff of Diamond wall blocks will be present. Davco and Lanko technical people will be at this Home and Garden show. I can only imagine who ever sold the building blocks in Buriram would know the answer straight away. If you are in Buriram on Friday through Tuesday you can enjoy free pizza from Roma Pizza restaurant and have any questions answered in English by many of the building products companies that staff a booth at this builders merchants.

Interior rendering of AAC / Q-con block is solely for aesthetic purposes ... They could be left bare if it suited the owner's taste... Especially if the blocks were uniformly 'glued' together with thin set tile cement instead of the gloppy irregular layers of cement mortar as is often incorrectly done in Thailand.

The learning curve is long in Thailand ...

Tiling direct would be ok as long as a suitable adhesive was found, I would have thought Weber would do something, a good tile shop should know.

Just looked on Celcon block site, which is a similar UK product here-

Internal tiling Traditionally, internal ceramic tiling is applied to blockwork which has previously received a rendered or plastered finish. A period of six weeks must be allowed between the completion of the blockwork and the start of the rendering or plastering, and a further two weeks must be allowed before the tiling commences. For further information, see BS 5385-1. Proprietary adhesives are available which permit tiling to be carried out sooner on blockwork which is sufficiently plumb and accurate. However, this method is not appropriate for every situation and advice should be sought from the manufacturers of the tiles and the adhesive. Generally, tiles should comply with BS EN 14411

All the discussion has been about answering if tiles can go directly onto SuperBlocks.

ALL WALLS and particularly aerated blocks should have a waterproofing membrane (Davco) or similar applied before tiling to prevent water leakage through the grout lines and damaging the wall on the other side.

All standard tile adhesives and grouts are then compatible with these membranes.
