Mcffee Posted March 26, 2015 Posted March 26, 2015 One of the many collective weirdnesses of which I never understood the logic. Even in hotel rooms (photo), upscale apartments they ALWAYS leave that ugly stickers on devices like fridges, aircons, toilets etc. Some farang psychologist here who can explain this behavior?
Popular Post CharlieH Posted March 26, 2015 Popular Post Posted March 26, 2015 Because it give the "impression" its new, a kind of "show off" thingy is my guess. 14
Popular Post MaeJoMTB Posted March 26, 2015 Popular Post Posted March 26, 2015 They are also very hard to get off without leaving a mess. 13
Ace of Pop Posted March 26, 2015 Posted March 26, 2015 Same reason they leave "All New Vigo" on 8 Y.O. old trucks. 2
Brit_Doggie Posted March 26, 2015 Posted March 26, 2015 It's hard work to remove them and it impresses friends,my gf even stuck a sticker on my outer door banning dogs from entry but i don't have 1 or wan't 1 lol,but it keeps her amused, sorta. 1
Popular Post Bangkokhatter Posted March 26, 2015 Popular Post Posted March 26, 2015 Have just moved into a 6 year old house and am contemplating getting my arse off here and taking the ugly plastic wrapping off all the kitchen cabinets 3
NancyL Posted March 26, 2015 Posted March 26, 2015 They do sell special sticker remover fluid, you know. I found it at Central or Tops or someplace and attacked the stickers on the toilets and appliances in our rental condo. Those stickers had to be at least 6 or 8 years old and boy-oh-boy they sure were hard to remove. That fluid did a real number on my manicure, too. 2
Popular Post uptheos Posted March 26, 2015 Popular Post Posted March 26, 2015 It's all because of trauma's experienced in childhood. I suggest analysis three times a week for two years to cure themselves of it. Taking plastic off new furniture would require a longer period. 3
Popular Post doctormann Posted March 26, 2015 Popular Post Posted March 26, 2015 They are also very hard to get off without leaving a mess. WD40 will remove the sticky residue. Then use Windex to get rid of the WD40. DM 7
Popular Post brewsterbudgen Posted March 26, 2015 Popular Post Posted March 26, 2015 Because it's not important? 8
Popular Post WhamBam Posted March 26, 2015 Popular Post Posted March 26, 2015 I must be odd then. I did not remove my efficiency rating sticker from my fridge freezer. To be honest, I never saw a problem with it. 13

lucifer666 Posted March 26, 2015 Posted March 26, 2015 My missus bought our fridge around ten years ago and they were only removed when she came to live with me, three years ago.
HeijoshinCool Posted March 26, 2015 Posted March 26, 2015 Refrigerators, TVs, air cons and fans, sinks and toilets … the seeking of Face is a never ending quest. 1
CNXBKKMAN Posted March 26, 2015 Posted March 26, 2015 If you peel that sticker off the fridge will anyone notice? The fridge will still look like a fridge. 2
Popular Post keemapoot Posted March 26, 2015 Popular Post Posted March 26, 2015 I know of some people who bought a new pickup truck about 6 years ago, and...never took the plastic off the seats. 3
Popular Post JingerBen Posted March 26, 2015 Popular Post Posted March 26, 2015 Most Thais who are in the modern consumer culture grew up in circumstances where buying a new appliance or vehicle was a big event. Most of us took those things for granted... it was no big deal. 3
Crazy chef 1 Posted March 26, 2015 Posted March 26, 2015 If you peel that sticker off the fridge will anyone notice? The fridge will still look like a fridge. And may even do the job of a fridge...keep your beer cold.... 1
Derek M Posted March 26, 2015 Posted March 26, 2015 They are also very hard to get off without leaving a mess. And have you know the locals here to do any hard work? My guess is the few hardworkers that there are are too tired when they get home to be bothered with stuff like removing stickers and plastics from kitchen cabinets. The others are just too lazy to contemplate it Cos it makes it look new? Make sme wonder..do Thai wander around into each others houses, all across Thailand to neighbours and use the "wow brand new air con/fridge/kitchen cambinets/TV/DVD" as a convo starter despite having seen the appliance daily for decades! with the response "why thank you for noticing it cost <heavily inflated price>" all while smiling to each other, and each other knowing it's a bare faced lie but just smiling happliy to each other. Perhaps this is where they get their lieing practice in! 1
pgrahmm Posted March 26, 2015 Posted March 26, 2015 Have seen this in many houses in the US also - fridges, TVs, computer screens, trash bins, new car window stickers until yellowed...Never figured it out there either.....First thing I did was yank them off as they could cause discoloration.....

The sticker removal fluid in the US is called GooGone. Maybe that's the name in Thailand?
KhunBENQ Posted March 26, 2015 Posted March 26, 2015 I know of some people who bought a new pickup truck about 6 years ago, and...never took the plastic off the seats. Not only for cars, but also for TV remotes, table legs etc. etc,

Popular Post wow64 Posted March 26, 2015 Popular Post Posted March 26, 2015 Anyone know where I can get new stickers.. the ones on my fridge are looking a bit old. 10
losworld Posted March 26, 2015 Posted March 26, 2015 The ghosts will read it and not take food from the fridge.
KittenKong Posted March 26, 2015 Posted March 26, 2015 I use nail varnish remover to get stickers off. It's widely available.
Anthony5 Posted March 26, 2015 Posted March 26, 2015 I use nail varnish remover to get stickers off. It's widely available. Nail varnish remover is actually diluted Acetone, and isn't the best for removing glue, while at the same time damaging plastics and paint. To remove glue residual it's better to use Turpentine or White Spirit. 1
NeverSure Posted March 26, 2015 Posted March 26, 2015 How the heck would I know the difference between my fridge and my dishwasher if I took the stickers off? LOL
Popular Post smokie36 Posted March 26, 2015 Popular Post Posted March 26, 2015 Why are so many farang covered in ugly tattoos? 3
MAJIC Posted March 26, 2015 Posted March 26, 2015 Why do Thais never remove ugly stickers from new fridge, aircon etc?Labels signify an appliance is new,and in the case of electrical goods, the lower the energy consumption, the more expensive the item, another aspect of "Face", same as not taking the plastic and cellophane off new furniture, that's why shops don't take off labels from goods,Thais like to see them,it improves status!
