Zostavax(Shingles) vaccine today - Thailand

Featured Replies

Wife and I both received today at Vejthani Hospital, during routine 90 day visit, so indeed it is available now. Cost was 6,500 baht list each (less 10% with VIP card). Both of us felt like kicked in arm for a minute or two after getting but this quickly faded and no pain at injection site. If it can lessen any possible shingles pain it is well worth the price.

Thanks for the info and update on that, Lopburi...

Very glad to know and hear it's finally available here in country...

Does it help prevent outbreaks of genital herpes as well ? That would be a huge incentive for a lot of people. Money well spent.

Will not help that. It is specific for Shingles (Herpes Zoster) and will not protect against other herpes types.

Generally it is highly recommended between age 60-70 from my reading but above it can still be effective at reducing and probably preventing some cases - both of us are above age 70. US approves use above age 50. Below is what Google quotes:

  1. 60 years
  2. CDC recommends Zostavax for use in people 60 years old and older to prevent shingles. This is a one-time vaccination. There is no maximum age for getting the shingles vaccine. Anyone 60 years of age or older should get the shingles vaccine, regardless of whether they recall having had chickenpox or not.Nov 21, 2014
