Customs department to tighten up tax evasion and tax collection

BANGKOK: -- The Customs Department will tighten up examination of imports to stem tax evasion and to increase tax revenue after customs tax collection for the first six months of the 2015 fiscal year has fallen short of target by 2.5 billion baht.

Customs department chief Somchai Satjapong predicted that the total revenue shortfall for the whole year was expected to soar to 4.5 billion baht mainly due to economic slowdown which as affected exports.

However, he admitted that he was satisfied with the revenue figure but not sure that the government would be happy or not.

Regarding the case of Isuzu and Toyota companies which were found to have violated agreement of tax privileges, he said that the department had ordered the two firms to pay 1.8 billion baht and 11 billion baht in additional taxes respectively.

Only idiots bite the hand that feeds them. Those companies are already edging toward Myanmar and especially the Philippines.

The Philippines is primarily Catholic and therefore has a higher birth rate. It has a lot more potential workers in the needed age group. It could also really use the jobs. Let's see where Thailand winds up as a Big Deal in ten years.

Of course..anything the police are involved in is totally corrupt!

Is something lost in the translation here - "However, he admitted that he was satisfied with the revenue figure but not sure that the government would be happy or not." facepalm.gif

Does this mean that they collected more than expected even though it was less than the target? Unless this is a very small percentage miss if I was his boss I would not think much of his "satisfaction".

Did anyone have a good look at the pic...that's one of the fanciest meeting rooms I have seen...money to burn
