PHUKET: A language teacher in Phuket faces up to five years in jail and a fine of up to B200,000 for making a false bomb threat on an AirAsia aircraft about to take off from Phuket International Airport this morning (May22).

The pilot on board AirAsia Flight FD3002 aborted takeoff after he was told of the risk of a bomb being on board the plane.
Ms Phanarat Nopphakhun, 38, was taken into custody after she reportedly told a flight attendant on AirAsia Flight FD3002 that she had two water bottles stowed in her luggage in the undercarriage.

“Water can be a bomb, you know,” she reportedly told the attendant.

Flight FD3002 was scheduled to take off at 8:40am, bound for Don Mueang Airport in Bangkok.

The plane was taxiing toward the runway when the attendant informed the pilot, who brought the aircraft to a swift halt on the tarmac.

Passengers were evacuated from the aircraft, which was then moved a safe distance from the main terminal.

The bomb squad was called in to search the plane. Explosive Ordnance Disposal officers also had all the luggage hauled off the aircraft and searched, and they searched the passengers’ carry-on bags.

No explosives were found.

Ms Phanarat told police that she had told the flight attendant there was a bomb on the plane because she felt that the luggage inspectors at the airport were rude to her when they inspected her bag.

Ms Phanarat and her companion Swiss national Walter Jurn Leisinger, 60, were taken to the nearby Tha Chat Chai Police Station for questioning.

Police confirmed that she has been charged over the incident. If found guilty, she may face years of jail time and a fine of up to B200,000.

Once cleared for takeoff, the passengers re-boarded Flight FD3002, which left Phuket at 10:47am.

wow, crazy lady ....... if found guilty she may face years of jail time & up to 200,000 baht fine.

would guilty be ... that she said she had a bomb in her luggage even though she didn't ? or would it be that she had to be found to actually have it in her luggage to be guilty ?

Just curious .....

That will teach those rude luggage inspectors a thing or two.

there are less dramatic methods available to her - if she didn't really want to go away with the old fart

TIT will find some way to move the blame over to the farang instead

A few more years down the track (after she gets out) : This is gonna make her next Visa a little difficult for him to get her

She was charged with making a false bomb threat. So she would be guilty if she said there was a bomb when there wasn't one.

If she said there was a bomb and there really was a bomb, she wouldn't be guilty of making a false bomb threat.

water bottles in the undercarriage

noun: undercarriage; plural noun: undercarriages
a wheeled structure beneath an aircraft, typically retracted when not in use, which supports the aircraft on the ground.

"TIT will find some way to move the blame over to the farang instead" . Paranoid and derogatory comment, totally irrelevant to this issue.

We returned from the south via Krabi Airport and AirAsia last evening. It was all the buzz in the airport but we figured we'd find it was a farang or Chinese citizen. Wrong again.

Believe she'll feel the full force of the law because this is dealt with outside (but in conjunction with) local authority. While international air laws are still disconnected in large measure, a bomb threat (or any inference thereof) is taken very seriously these days.

The passenger compartment which carries the passengers is of course the "Carriage" (that which carries the passengers). The belly of the aircraft which contains the luggage hold and anything under the passenger compartment (The Carriage) is therefore referred to as the undercarriage. Since an aircraft has only one undercarriage, "undercarriage" is correct. Origin goes back to the days of horse drawn carriages.

It might be a crazy reaction, but if you've had to concede liquid containers just over the 100ml limit at a Thai airport security check, you can appreciate her anger. I'd like to an investigation into how much those security agents profit by confiscating and reselling bottles of cosmetics, perfumes and toiletries. For some reason, Suvarnabhumi and Don Muang are the only international airports where I have had liquid containers confiscated.

You don't travel much then, do you?

Her luggage would have been stowed in the cargo hold of the plane, not in the undercarriage. You don't stow luggage in the wheels!

Undercarriage is correct, but cargo hold would have been more explanatory for those with less education.

This lady is clueless. Anybody with half a brain or a bit of awareness to world news should know that the mention of a bomb is very serious business. We are living in "post 9/11 times".

Even 200ml of hydrogen peroxide in a water bottle, mixed with reactants that can be contained in cosmetics perfumes and toiletries containers can do a lot of damage to an aircraft. A 2006 terrorist plot to bring down 7 large aircraft using these materials was thwarted, This is the reason confiscation and at least not letting the passenger taking the bottles into the passenger compartment.

How do you become a teacher when you have no brains?bah.gif

Well, you know... even half of all doctors graduate in the bottom 50% of their class. This teacher must have graduated at the very bottom of her class.

Ok blame the farang , Maybe the farang wanted to get rid of her

Maybe she was a slice of bread short of a loaf so he goaded her on -- now she's gone boo hoo

Can get an earlier model.

Maybe she could share a cell with that Chinese woman who objected to the peanuts. They could share notes about how to avoid stupid remarks.
