I'm assuming it's still 2 million baht. Well worth it if you can afford it though.

500.000 baht for 5 years

This is not "new", it has been around for a while.

The 2 million Baht one is for 20 years.

So about 275 baht per day cover charge.

Hmm. coffee1.gif

Why in the newsletter? It has been like this for years

I guess because there are new or not so old members of TV that dont know what the card is.

Is this legit? I had no idea one could get a 5-year visa, especially if you're not working, married to Thai citizen, or retired.

If it is indeed possible to obtain such a visa, is it really 500,000 baht for 5 years? That seems outrageously expensive for what the ad says it offers. I can get a one-year visa for $200US (approximately 6,600 baht). Am I missing something in the translation?

Furthermore, is it even worth it for me to look into such a visa if I'm turning 50 next August? [note: if it really is 500,000 baht, the point is moot -- I'm not spending that kind of money on a visa unless it comes with some great perks I'm unaware of. "Fast Track" at the airport and "airport limo" are not what I consider worthwhile perks.]

Of course it is legal. There are many threads running, inclduing the endless discussion of the cost, you can read or post there.

Are you in their target category?

I mean: below 50, not married to a Thai, not working

If so, what kind of one-year visa can you get?

Have to pay 500K all at once or is it 100k a year?

All at once

As someone in my early 40's this turned out to be a good option for me. £2k (~100k Baht) a year is not much, I used to spend a lot more doing visa runs before. I was flying all over the place including Europe at times just to keep a current visa, that's fun for about a year but it gets boring quickly.

It would seem to me that a very low percentage of farong would be 45 years old or younger, not married and truly not working here....

So I am wondering just how small the "Elite" membership is?

It would seem minuscule to me....

If you add in those that work online for remote offshore entities that have nothing to do with Thailand and just wire money in... it's a bit bigger. No specific laws against that.

But as mentioned several times in the other thread you are very lucky to have got a 1 year non-O as most countries/consulates/embassies will not issue them unless you meet the qualifying criteria. Nothing wrong with being lucky but for most others unmarried under 50 the PE is a good albeit pricey option.

Sounds like a great option if you don't mind spending that much.

I'm on retirement extensions but to avoid the hassle of annual applications such a 5 year "just pay for it" visa would be appealing to me but at a lower price.

I just turned 56 and got the 5-year visa last year for the very reason that JT mentions ==> '... to avoid the hassle of annual applications...'

The daily cost (500,000/[5*365]) is worth it, when compared to the hassles and intrusion into my private life that I've had over the past 14 years in Thailand re visa applications/extensions, questions about my family, kids etc etc. My local immigration office is over an hour's drive away and I got tired of the immigration officers demanding that I go back and produce various documents that were not on their official list of required documents.

This is in Phuket, so your mileage may vary...

Since getting my Elite card, I have been fast-tracked and treated cordially on the few visits that I've made go the immigration office (90 day reports).

I'm a satisfied, old, Elite card customer :)

5 YEAR MULTIPLE ENTRY VISA - "PE VISA"

You can now get a 5-year multiple entry visa for Thailand!

Perfect if you are under 50 years old, or not married to a Thai citizen or not working.

You people are missing the point.

It is being offered/sponsored by:

ThaiVisa !

Why does that matter?

Anyway the convenience would be worth about 30k baht per year to me. Not 100. But I have other options.

Funnily I went to do my first 90d report last week. First got various questions, then officer noticed I had PE visa and questions stopped and was instantly done.

So far really happy with PE visa. Price really isn't that bad, but that has been gone through on previous threads already.

I can't believe some people still don't know about Thailand Elite...

The program is already 13 years old.

Why in the newsletter? It has been like this for years

because they are a sponsor.

If you can afford this ridiculously high price, I would assume the Thai's would classify you as a "Hi-So" and probably leave you be and not worry about you. (i.e must be someone important to have that much money to toss around)

I just don't understand the venom and negative comments regarding the Thai Elite 5 year.

If some members can afford it and it suited their circumstances then fine, leave them to it. It's their choice for f*!ks sake.

For the others that moan about how expensive it is etc.......then why bother? Its not for you so leave it at that.

Since the Thailand Elite subject is my favorite one, I allow myself to list a few of the privileges:

- 5 years PE visa, renewable 3 times, without leaving the country, in the case of the full 20 years membership.

- 1 year stamp, each time you enter the country.

No need to leave the country to extend the stamp.

- So, if the member wanted it, he/she could stay 20 years in Thailand without leaving the country.

- Superb assistance at the airport, with charming girls waiting for the member at the gate.

- Super fast and super easy immigration procedures (when arriving or departing, and even when obtaining the visa itself).

- Limo service.

- A priceless feeling of being welcome back, each time the member arrives in Thailand.

- Unlimited entries in the country.

- Invitations to exclusive events.

- Discounts here and there, from hotels and shopping, to yacht charters and private jets.

- All this, and more, for a very affordable fee.

:)

I know it works for some but IMO none of the privileges, which members are paying for, justify the cost. The only real benefit is convenience which comes at a high cost.

I spend about 1.5 hours a year (paperwork prep, travel time and in the immigration office) on my extension of stay application, and my 90 day reports take 10 mins. The cost is 1,900 x 5 years at 9,500 baht. If I want to come and go I can buy a multi re-entry permit for 3,800 x 5 years at 19,000 baht. Total 28,500. That leaves me 471,500 baht to spend on limos, or people to suck up to me!

Just because something is affordable doesn't mean it's worth buying.
