webfact
Phra Suthep to leave monkhood on July 28 to head a foundation dedicated for reformsBANGKOK: -- Former leader of the People’s Democratic Reform Committee Phra Suthep Prakakaro (formerly Suthep Thaugsuban) will leave the monkhood on July 28 to head the PDRC foundation.Phra Shane Arpatharo, younger brother of Phra Suthep, said Sunday that the ex-Democrat would give a press conference after leaving the monkhood about his future plan as head of a foundation dedicated to pushing for reforms. The foundation’s planned activities include the setting up of a first vocational college at Koh Samui and setting up villagers for the elderly initially in Surat Thani province, said Phra Shane. The former Democrat secretary-general who led a mass protest against the government of prime minister Yingluck Shinawatra entered the monkhood at Wat Traithammaram in Surat Thani shortly after the May 22 coup last year.Meanwhile, Phra Chinnaworn Chanthasaro (formerly Chinnaworn Bunyakiat) said that the Koh Samui’s vocational college was the brainchild of Phra Pawana Pothikhun, president of Theeppawan foundation in Koh Samui. The college, he explained, will focus on Buddhist teachings in conjunction with vocational teachings so that the students can apply Buddhist concept in their livelihood.Source: http://englishnews.thaipbs.or.th/phra-suthep-to-leave-monkhood-on-july-28-to-head-a-foundation-dedicated-for-reforms -- Thai PBS 2015-07-
Sarathi
He had resolved to stay 2014 days in the monkhood - the same number of days as the protests. But he stayed longer as he was making too much money at it. ok, just joking.

steveyinasia
"The college, he explained, will focus on Buddhist teachings in conjunction with vocational teachings so that the students can apply Buddhist concept in their livelihood." yeah good luck with that, Buddhist teachings to students how generally don't learn anything. And how are the Buddhist beliefs working for the rest of Thai society.
SuwadeeS
For me, he is still a murder, because he signed the paper. Just a murder in orange. The time of real monk is over, because they should not walk around smoking and using the most expensive I phones and PC for playing games etc. Have look at all the crimes, e.g. drunk, women and rape. As I see it, he will walk away. No real justice in this country.
mojorison
He devalues the religion. He politicizes it. He uses it purely to gain points. It highlights a problem within the hierarchy of the system that they allow him to do it. He should have not been allowed in the Wat in the first place. it is a very serious error, and yes it undermines the religion immensely.

EnglishJohn
That is when he will start another protest and get more people killed. He likes to do things like that. It's pretty clear to anyone with an IQ over 50 that virtually all the people MURDERED during the protests were killed by UDD thugs getting paid a few thousand baht by their own government to go out and do it. And under that dictatorship (proved by the amnesty bill), only one guy could give that order. Your hypocrisy and lies make me sick. Go get yourself some ethics.
