Wind-up drivers beware! Motorist to be fined for this tacky car decor

BANGKOK: -- While some drivers think it’s cute and hilarious to stick a giant key on the back of their bulky, round Honda Jazz to imitate a wind-up toy, it turns out they could face a fine of THB2,000 – and not just because it looks really ugly.

The Department of Land Transport yesterday issued a warning about the popular car decor, stating that such adornments are considered a distraction to other road users and could potentially lead to accidents.

The trendy key, which is usually made from a soft foam and seen on cars with round features such as Honda Jazz and Toyota Yaris, is illegal, according to Vehicle Act B.E. 2522.

Seriously??............but driving these little pieces of crap at 160kph is ok?

Oh another fine example of prioritization of whats important. , seriously, there's no other shit that needs addressing in this country on the roads? I assume the daily fatality rate is now at zero and dangerous driving just doesn't happen anymore. Great.

Banning drivers who "wind me up" that'd be a neat trick which I would support.

Foam key decoration banning......Thailand, solving one major problem at a time.

A "distraction" for other motorists? - can't see that distracting them from texting, phoning, admiring themselves in their rear view mirrors or generally behaving as if they are the only road users out that day!

this threads a wind up right? I mean those HUGE advertisements and screens are not a 'distraction' but a foam key is???

'Thainess' : winding up folk for decades

One of them must have come loose and hit someone's Mercedes.

THB2,000 for tacky car decor.

THB400 for no licence.

How about drivers windscreens festooned with lucky amulets, flowers, teddy bears, and that's before the DVD screens.?

Regarding those wacky wind-up keys, the Taste Police should be filing separate charges.

The LED displays that seem to be popping up everywhere, are they not distracting ?

the Dept of Land transport needs to lighten up a bit.

No mention if the clockwork mechanism will have to be removed too, but having said that without the key it would render the whole mechanism inoperative anyway. So in my opinion it may be better to remove it anyway with the possibily of improved MPH and improved suspension stability.

What about the extremely bright-white advertising lights that flash in darkness ?

Beggars belief where priorities lie.

I don't know, car is a big investment and everyone has different tastes. Do we really need the thought police telling us now even how to jazz up our wheels?

I mean what next, banning cargo shorts and tacky T-shirts.

You got a petition? Where can I sign? Can you add flip flops with socks?

Aren't those winders the ignition on a Yaris anyway?

And for that we needed Article 44?

About time, but they should be fined for being a copycat instead.

Why Thai people never can be original?

When there was a few cars driving around with that key it was original, when ever other car had one it turned to be boring.

They seem to be popular on motorcycle helmets too.

No doubt the Tardis shall materialise soon and The Doctor can save us from impending invasion or genocide.

So this is more important then driving motocy against traffic without helmet with a 2 kids on the back?clap2.gifclap2.gif

What about all those trucks with Michelin man around their windows?

One of them is usually driving.

I find idiots on motorcycles who leave their left or right indicator on or who have modified their brake light to flash crazily more of a bloody distraction. Never seen one of these keys, but I think it would bring a smile to my face. biggrin.png
