Hunt for killer of 200-kg giant catfish in Buri Ram

BURI RAM: -- Buri Ram municipal officials are looking for a hunter who has shot dead a 200-kg giant catfish raised in a klong in the Muang district.

The dead fish which is about 20 years old was found floating in the klong on Wednesday with a wound on its back suspected to be inflicted by a dart.

Mr Yutthachai Pongpanich, vice mayor of the Muang district, said he suspected the hunter could not take away the giant catfish because it was too heavy for him to carry.

Several people were found fishing illegally in Klong Lalom Boran when municipal officials inspected the klong on Thursday after it was reported that a dead giant catfish was found floating in the klong.

The illegal fishermen were told to release their catches back to the klong and warned that they would facd theft charge the next time they are caught fishing in the klong.

Mr Yutthachai said that giant catfish fries were released into the klong about 20 years ago. Sixteen of them have grown to between 100-200 kgs but three of them have died, including two which were shot dead with dart gun.

He disclosed that usually 4-5 men were caught illegal fishing each month in the klong. He pleaded with members of the public to report to the authorities if they came across illegal fishing.

Sorry to be pedantic but they meant catfish fry, which is both singular & plural.

Hungry people do hungry things. Like ignore the lard-buckets in seats of power.

What's wrong with fish and chips?

Fries are baby fish. Try a dictionary

If YOU had tried the dictionary before posting, you would know that the correct word is "fry" be it singular or plural. Fries are what you order at McDonalds

Just love it...typical TV "expert" is dead wrong, but still cops an attitude.

Is a term used for very young fish. Another being fingerlings. Fingerlings is normally used for young trout but can be used for any young fish under 1 year old. Basically it means they are about a finger in length. The fish fry are when they are just hatch and are able to feed themselves.

Typical Tinglish.

It should be fry.

You can have one fry, or 1,000 fry.

It is never fries when referring to fish unless you are talking about multiple fish cooking events.

I can't believe there was a 200kg catfish in one of the klongs. I wouldn't have thought there was enough food for it to get that big.
