Hi there,

I normally buy most of my Adaptogens (and Vitamins) from iHerb but I'm wondering if anyone knows of a good place in Bangkok or a website in Thailand where I can buy things like this?

I'm really looking for any reputable sources of Chinese or Ayurvedic medicine such as:

Cordyceps

Huperzine

Reishi

Gingseng (panax or eleuthero)

Jiaogulan

Schisandra

Turmeric

I've asked previously on another forum and the only reply I got was "look in Chinatown" but I'm really hoping for a recommendation on somewhere which sells quality organic products or any experiences people have had buying these things in Thailand.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks in advance.

Well ginseng is all over the place here, in all sorts of forms (how genuine is another matter).

I have seen straight turmeric powder in Makro; you can also get turmeric capsules in any shop or kiosk selling Thai herbal medicines. Also old ladies sell it on the street along with pumice stones. (If you have a garden, it is extremely easy to grow it).

Cordyceps: http://healthfoodthailand.com/en/44-supplements-herbal

No idea about the other things. You'd best start by finding out the Thai names

Many pharmacies carry Thai herbal medicines. The labels though may be all in Thai. So don't overlook your local pharmacies. Certainly should be able to get at least ginseng and turmeric capsules, maybe some of the others too.

That's a great start thanks. I have actually seen bulk tumeric capsules in the local market but I'm always unsure of the quality of the product.

Have seen most of those, but not all in one pharmacy unfortunately.

Don't know if you have a big Supercheap warehouse/store near you as they have the largest stock of products such as these.

Also why not add Astragalus to your list.........an adaptogen which is well regarded.

Hey, thanks for the replies and the suggestion of Astragulus. I'm continuing to learn about adaptogens and any info is great.

I managed to track down most from http://www.back2naturethailand.com/

I also managed to find a thai source of Reishi from http://www.thanyaporn.com/ the chinese name for this is Lingzhi, this is the main one I was looking for really. They also sell Jiaogulan and Gingseng.

Most of the Thanyaporn products can be found in the supermarkets and I think some 7/11's but stocks vary and I'm not sure of the quality of this companies products. I will experiment and see, lol.

I'm still on the look out for Cordyceps, Huperzine and Schisandra but I'm feeling I might have to succumb to iherb...the search goes on.

Thanks again everyone.

There is a formula called "Astra 8" (don't know if it is available from iHerb but have seen it on the Internet) and that contains........"a precise blend of astragalus, eleuthero, ginseng and ligustrum balanced with additional herbs for ease of digestion and assimilation.

Proprietary Blend of: Astragalus root, Eleuthero root, Ginseng root extract, Schizandra fruit, Ligustrum fruit, Oryza sprout, and Licorice root".

You probably already know this, but if you are ordering from overseas do not get your purchases sent via DHL/Fedex/courier, but use ordinary airmail and they are more than likely to get through without being confiscated by Customs.

Oh great, I'll check that out. To be honest at the moment I'm personally just trying to isolate those adaptogens that I react to in a positive way and those that I don't.

That's a great tip actually, if I order anything I will definitely steer clear of those. Thanks.

I use them mainly to manage stress and anxiety while also helping with mental focus and reducing brain fog.

Some are for regulating hormones, reducing inflammation in the body etc.

I feel Rhodiola in particular is one of the most effective in reducing anxiety and making me feel much calmer. Many people feel Ashwaganda is good for this too but I didn't feel any effect from it.

If anyone has any experiences using adaptogens I'd love to hear about it.
