am I likely to incur import charges on a computer screen?

I am trying to consider my options after dropping my macbook and now the screen has some strange lines on it. I phoned a few places to ask about repairs and the quotes are around 15-20K. The actual replacement of the screen is more of a replacement of the lid/clamshell of the laptop and is not really that difficult to perform if you have the right tools. I can buy a replacement online and replace myself for about half the price of what a local repair would cost. If there is an import tax on computer parts/screens I may just get it shipped to the UK and have a friend bring it with them when they visit in a couple of months.

If a friend is bringing it in their luggage there should be no issue, just ensure it doesn't look new (remove the packing) and bring it through with his laptop and other stuff.

Customs are on the lookout for excess booze and cigs, easy targets with well known limits and defined penalties. Half a laptop will be of no interest to them.

If you do ship it, ensure it does NOT come via one of the couriers (DHL, FedEx etc.) as it will incur charges. Get it sent regular parcels (tracked and insured), it may get through with no duty if the declared value is not excessive, if it does get duty it won't be massive.
