Chinese vendor attempts to sell Vietnamese brides on Taobao

CHINA: -- A bold entrepreneur has brought exploitation of China’s “Singles’ Day” shopping to a whole new level. While many vendors use the holiday to sell swathes of discounted wares to lonely PRC citizens looking for a retail distraction to their relationship status, one seller named Wang Xiao Xi’s Gift Shop has promised to end their marital woes by selling Vietnamese brides for RMB9998 (USD1500).

The seller — who placed the deal on the wildly popular Chinese digital retailer Taobao — was hawking more than 2500 wares in the past month, including socks for RMB1.6. But his bargain brides garnered the most attention, with selling lines like, “For only 9,998 yuan, bring a beautiful wife home.”

Wang’s bride offers were no longer visible on Taobao by 4:30 pm on single’s day (November 11; the abundance of ones on the eleventh day of the eleventh month represents singledom).
